| [#37] Rogue Audio 同好會 During the past 20 years, I used the Sound Audio (HK brand) pre & power. After I had changed my loudspeaker to Dali Royal Menuet and learn how to correctly place the loudspeaker in my listening place, the Sound Audio's 50watt hybrid power couldn't feed the Dali. I search around the market for a bargain power amp, good sound with enough power to drive the Dali. First I listed wanted in R33 for SonicFrontier. After I had heard fmhk's Rogue M120, I changed my mind to Rogue. For two months' reseach and frequent listening in the Rogue show room. I finally bought the Rogue Stereo 90 at month-end of March (got 10% off discount by cash). Though its cost exceeded the total amount of my current audio gears (what a poor man!!), the Rogue Stereo 90 giving me the great pleasure in listening all kind of music, in particular, those with deep bass and dynamic frequency. Now my Rogue after break-in, I changed the 12AX7 to two Telefunken smooth plate, and the 6SN7 changed to RCA black foot sand glass, still used the EH-KT88. What I do now, listening to all my CD/LP collections whenever I have time. Enjoy!! I vote for the Rogue.  |

| [#39] Rogue Audio 同好會 Those of you who have the M-120, Mark @ Rogue suggested adding a 0.1mF polypropylene of about 600V on C19, and C20 position. I only added the cheapest cap available with positive result on transparency improvement. Although the instruction claims the 120 can use EL-34 and KT-90, but I would strongly advise against anything else but KT-88 /6550 and please never, never use KT-90 in this amp because this is how I blew up almost all my resistors with the rolling of KT-90 meaning instant white smoke. Yes, sometimes bad things happen when you are too hardcore as an audiophile. The amp is already pretty damn good out of the box ! Better stick with the original tubes to limit unnecessary risk especially those of you who are into NOS tube rolling. In case, anything is wrong with the 120. I have the schematics for the 120. But I don’t think you really need it because most of the audio circuit is mirror in “stereo” 2 channels. Most of you should be intelligent enough to fix it by the clues left on the good channel. Make no mistake Rogue is very durable, I used it for 5 years but only repair twice, and both times happen because of tube rolling. Once with KT-90 overloading and once with a leaking KT-88. Back than I was a silly fanatic on "breaking in". So hell yes, I took those babies to their limited. I think the maximum turn on period was 5 days for the sake of breaking in a pair of stupid super tweeters. Isn’t it sucks when you are too series as an audiophile? I wonder if any of the new Rogue users try Kt-90. It should yield the greatest power output out of any other tube. Please share. |
