| [#23] Can HTPC Beat CD Player? You better get a motherboard with spdif out, in that case, you got more choice with DAC. Besides, I am a little bit worry about atom ability to decode file, if you need software upsample or downsample in future, you better to go for a more powerful motherboard and CPU ability. I found there is a J&W 780G motherboard with SPDIF out in itx format, if you use ADM 3250e CPU, the power consumption is still about 60W but you got the ability for HDMI Output and more computer power. You also need a PCI slot if you want to have a decent sound card on atom motherboard.... |

| [#24] Can HTPC Beat CD Player? This is my setup: 1) a 15 inch macbook pro. 2) Acoustic-reality eAR master one and 202 amp. A firewire dac and pre/power combo. 3)PS audio UPC power conditioner 4)magnepan 1.6 speakers. The total buying price of the Mac and AR are around 35K. The cost can be cut down if choosing the white macbook ( only the white macbook has firewire ). I don't know of any other firewire dac so I can't recommend but there must be some cheaper option.  |

Deepsea hing, 兄上近來深居簡出, 只能在街上碰巧遇上了... 但匆匆數月, 你都知我學左幾多, 受用幾多, 無言感激了. 我在兄上一兩成的 hardware 下, 只有全力做好現有 config, 如 underclock, AOBCT, cplay, RAM, 等等小動作, - 喇叭亂放都有廣闊音場, 聲音離箱 - 皇帝位有一張 sofa 長 - 雞線出靚聲 (但我的喇叭仍然是 aq 線, 沒辦法改了) - 解決 Bass 不足, Punch 不足, 和不夠力的情況. Chord 2600 終於夠推 JM MUBE 了. 但仍然差兄上幾條街 (並非謙虛之言), timing 和 bass 仍和兄上差好遠, 不過現在夠聽算了. 不知如何多謝你了, 幾時有空隨時 call 我, 我請你和 ackcheng 兄飲野! |

| [#37] Can HTPC Beat CD Player? HTPC cannot beat a CD player because: 1. There is too much RF noise and EMI inside the PC that will corrupt the digital audio signal. 2. Power regulation is done by switching power supply, and that adds noise to the digital audio signal. You need a dedicated music transport if you want to beat a CD player. The only units that can beat a CD player are the Logitech Transporter and the dedicated HD recorder/player such as Alesis HD24. Also, the only software that can product bit accurate ripping from CDs are EAC and dbPoweramp Reference 13. These software and find the correct CD read offset from your CD/DVD-ROM drive. Without bit accurate ripping, and controlling noise and jitter entering into your digital audio stream (PSU, cables, etc), you cannot beat a good CD player with HTPC. |
