Btw, do u know if there is any difference in sound between the one with copper + fibre optics (for draining power directly from the USB port) and the one which need a battery. | [#27] Benchmark DAC1 Fans Club I think it is better not take the power from PC which is the source of noise. So I will not choose the copper + fibre combined cable. If I want to drive USB using the power from PC, I'd just simply use standard USB cable instead. In fact, it sounds very good. But having the fibre optics extension cable is better. For fibre optics extension cable, you don't have to use battery. You can buy a high quality 5V DC power supplier instead. I found that this cable actually ship with a 5V DC power supply but it probably be a bad quality switching power. |

Would McIntosh MS750 harddisk be beter than CD? MS750 750G storage is good size. Unless I'm using PC to drive Benchmack DAC1 USB, it is the highest capacity server so far. |

| [#37] Benchmark DAC1 Fans Club I bought Sennheiser HD650 for my DAC1 last year. HD650 is 300 ohm and is well known to be power hungry and it needs a decent headphone amp. I used DAC1 to drive HD650 and the sound was dull and boring. I fell asleep when listening to them. Then I sold HD650 and tested many headphones, and eventually I settled with Beyerdynamic DT990. DT990 is 250 ohm, but it seems to be a great match to DAC1. Violin plays silky smooth, piano is crisp and clear, female vocal is charming as well. So I think Benchmark DAC1 has a reasonably good headphone output, but don't expect too much as it's most respectful analogue output is still XLR/RCA. |
