| [#22] 買音響先買揚聲器!!! I have read hundreds of reviews from local and overseas hi-fi magazines. I found out the following. 不論中外寫手, they often say this $1000 component is comparable to another $3000 component. I think they are honest. 我講真架. However, for different type of component, the degree of $1000 v.s. $X000 is different. For cables, some $1000 cables has a performance of some $10,000 cables. For CDP and DAC, some $10,000 CDP has a performance of some $50,000 CDP, For power amp, some $10,000 power amp has a performance of some $20,000 power amp. For pre-amp, some $10,000 pre amp has a performance of some $15,000 pre amp. These writers are not lying. I have read 彈弓楊's review on Cayin CD-17A. I read do agree with him. I have audited that player in 膽皇 and it really give me the same impressions as 彈弓楊. Though I would still prefer to play on a Cambridge 640C and save those several thousands on future amp and speakers. That promise a much bigger improvements. They do not lie. However, they do not tell you components are not equal. Some are more important by a substancial degree. When they say, "Much better resolution, subtle texture, phenomental soundstage, amazing clarity on vocal and analogue sound" If it is about a DAC, you can just simply ignore it. If it is about a amp, play a bit of attention. If it is on a speaker, pay more attention. The interesting thing is that I seldom see a review that says a $1000 speaker has a performance of a $2000 speaker. or a $50,000 speaker has a performance of a 70,000 speaker. 揚聲器係一分錢一分貨. It is impossible for a $10000 speaker to have performance level of a $20000 speaker. (Though it is very possible for few $20,000 speaker to have a performance of a $10,000 speaker. Those are lousy speakers.) |

At first I am puzzled by the low grading of CD player. But after a second thought, I do agree that a better CD player may make some discs sound worse due to more reveal of artifact. |

| [#30] 買音響先買揚聲器!!! 配搭is very important. No doubt about it. However, what I have been saying is just how to fully utilize your money and maximize the result. That is the scenario with little money. Now I want to push it futher and assume you are very rich. Assume you are now using a speaker worth $40,000. Now you have a sum of 150,000 to spend. If you put all of it in CD player, DAC, cables, and amps. I am sure you can fully brought out the best of that speakers. However, if you put that half of that sum, i.e. $70,000 alone in a new speaker. What you probably get is a different 音色. That is a whole new world for you to explore. A CDP, DAC, amp do not define 音色. No matter how much you invest in it, you can't change 音色. |

| [#39] 買音響先買揚聲器!!! Hello! QQ, I don't quite understand what you stated, your idea or theory is so subjective. In the Hi-Fi world, every part of the gear in your system is important. You said that only the loundspeaker could defines the 'sound quality' is absolutely wrong. Have you try LP before? Or try to add a DAC to the cheap cheap DVD player? Have you ever compared your Cambridge Audio to Linn CD player. Or try to use Gryphon then Simaudio to drive a pair of B&W? Moreover, have you really tried different interconnect leads, e.g. I just tried two pairs of interconnect leads on the same gear @ my friend home tonight, a pair is VDH MC Silver & XLO signature 1.2, the result is quite obvious as VDH provides a lighter vocal, bigger soundstage & high frequency extension. Nevertheless, I agree with you that loudspeaker is the frist priority in a choice of gear for a beginner. A well-known experienced audiophile - Dr. Fung told me that: Consider your room size & taste first for a pair of appropriated loudspeakers, then match it with an amplifier; not only to match the db of the speakers, but also to match the tonal performance. He also said that the source is equally important as acurracy, density and digital/analog conversion are the main factors affecting the reality of the music re-production. As for the cost ratio of a set of system, I think there is no absolute, which should be depended on how your requirement. IMO, from the software quality, electricity, sources to speaker, they play their own role and create the whole performance, there is a lot of changes, this is so-called 'mix & match' - the interest from building up your gear! No one say source or cable will not be hearable, just based on experience, I would say speaker outlines over 80% of sound character while other component just add seasoning to individual's favour. A nice cooked (spk) meal tastes nice, some may prefer more salty by adding more salt (accessories). Just salt cannot make a bad taste meal turns to nice. |
