| [#36] 求教Linn Isobarik應配甚麼後級？ Linn and Naim were partners in thier hay days in 80's. Isobariks are 4 ohms speakers and loads are severe. In the case of early Sara (white belly with Canon XLR speaker connectors) impedance can drop to below 2 ohms. Quad 405 cannot handle such loads and if used and burnt guarantee would be void as pronounced by Linn and Quad. Later Sara 5/9 (without white belly with banana speaker connectors) of less severe loads but sound quality is inferior. Krell then came to the scene. KSA 50 or 100 is good match with Isobarik. So are Audio Research D90, D115. Isobarik should be placed against wall for good bass as it was so designed but depth of sound stage is sacrificed to some degrees. Isobariks are solidly built and heavily sealed but the problem is the cabinet will go into pieces or broken if drivers need to be replaced. Bass of Isobarik is a class of its own which sounds and feels quite different from others for some records. ----------------------- I actually have a ARC D115 but it is too heavy to bring along. BTW, Angus, I would love to come to listen to your Linn Isobarik. Can't believe such a big box has a small engine, the KEF B110 mid/bass driver. There must be some magic in the box and the crossover, that made the Isobarik so much loved. Unless drivers are burnt, it will be for those who are bold enough to remove them at the risk of damaging the cabinet and as shown on photo you did a good job. Drivers have to be put back sealed so that the cabinet is air tight for the isobarik principle of two bass drivers in tandem to work. D115 is good and earlier D90 is even better. |
