| [#29] 唱片最後嗰首超衰聲點搞? 唱臂 effective length, 有得有失 First thing first, every tonearm is a compromise. No exception I am afraid. Longer tonearm length will amplify the downsides and expose the weakness to a higher extend of any tone arm design as I learnt from Avid's boss Mr Conrad Mas not long ago. Write Mr Mas, he will tell more. AVid produced excellent and highest quality adaptor to accept mounting of other type or length of tone arm on their standard SME type arm board. Their engineer made me two adaptors for my 2 Breuer arms but reluctant to offer armboard adaptor for housing 12" SME V arm on my Avid turntable. | [#30] 唱片最後嗰首超衰聲點搞? It is the effective arm mass. As the arm length increases, its effective mass also increases. More force will be exerted on the stylus-cantilever-suspension assembly just for tracking/tonearm guidance. As a result of such an increase in force, which can be unpredictable since no tracks run on perfectly centred circles and vinyls are always slightly warped, such unpredictable horizontal and vertical movements will increase both tracking errors and distortions (more force is needed to guide the tonearm and for tracking). If the suspension rubber is not stiff enough, the action-reaction between the anti-skate and the centripetal forces will always deflect the coils in a certain way that the coil-magnetic field are no longer perfectly aligned. Agree with dkyyu Hing, all mechanical designs are a compromise. |

| [#31] 唱片最後嗰首超衰聲點搞? Whether one should choose a 12 or a 9 inches tonearm depends on the actual effective arm mass and the suspension rubber compliance of the cartridge. A stiffer suspension rubber matches a longer tonearm and vice versa. |
