| [#5744] Milstein Boxset Agree and even for Rabin set, though it is made in Holland, it is for sure the best one time collection of his major works. Also, the German edition is already "fried" to a sky high price, the reissue one is not a bad choice. |

| [#5747] Ricci erictang: Thx for your info about Ricci Taiwan Decca CDs available at Taikoo CD Warehouse. A few days ago I was there and got them! Been looking for a long while the Mendelssohn. Taiwan Decca is not so easy to find now because Europe classical CDs are even cheaper! |

In my lifetime I do not recall so much soloist talent gathering to play with each other in any one stage..... Listen to the original HAPPY BIRTHDAY played by the maestros in strings.....wonderful.  |

| [#5751] Ricci, Oistrakh Hi DoctorJohn, You are welcome. In fact, I learn the Ricci Mendelssohn recording from your writing in the "JC's ..." thread. Just find you've already mentioned the Taiwan Decca in that thread dated 06-04-16 11:48. By the way, how do you like the Taiwan Decca Carmen & Mendelssohn/Tchaikovsky ? I think you (or other fan here) also mentioned the Oistrakh father & son playing Mozart Sinfonia Concertante, I guess the recording you're referring to is again on Decca. Here, I pick the EMI copy as a substitute and also because of the Brahms. Just listen to the first movement, I like Oistrakh's playing of Brahms, eg, the opening arpeggio like solo violin opening passage and those double/multiple stoppings. When compare to Mutter/Masur/New York Philharmonic, Mutter is a bit hurry in the opening and there is lot of rubato throughout the movement. Also there seems a lot of notes 爭少少 (走音). For Mozart, I still prefer the Stern/Zukerman pair. Eg, on how Stern plays the cresendo to start the piece and the balance/interaction between solo violin and viola. |
