| [#46] Review: Sonic Impact T-Amp vs Autocontruir i have never been a fan of cap upgrade, i did some before but honestly i could not listen to all the difference. May be each time i swap out a cap the souond is different but not necessarily towards a better directon. Just different. But this time, i have the two input caps on my Charlize (triapath 2020 based amp). Orignally I have a highly praised budget caps 2.2uf Obbligato copper tube in place, and recently after a lot of internet research, I took the decision to purcahse two Mundorf cap supreme silver/oil to try, and to see if they are really that good, and to also see if I can really tell the difference. My friend helped me restructure the wiring a bit so that I can swap different caps for comparison. I must say...simply breath taking. I like Charlize for the cheap price and good driving power. The bass has always been good from Charlize, but since I use small watt tube amp like Colin 5687 single stage and 71a direct coupled amp, I feel, in comparison, the charlise tripath amp's high frequency is not detailed and refined enough. All those nice harmonics, details and nuances from violin solo are missing a bit. I got lots of these from my 71a triode amp. I always want an amp that has the refinement of single ended tube amp but the power of class-t...now i got it. With about 20 hours break in on the mcap silver/oil, the amp is already performing in another level of refinement. It sounds better than all the 300b amp I have listened to (sorry, i have not listened to all, but some), and now the high level freq performance is very very clsoe to my single stage Colin 5687 tube amp and 71a tube amp. The charlize sounds more robust and massive than the tiny triode singled end amp. The mcap surely cost more than the Charlize itself, but much cheaper than a pair of NOS triode power tubes. This is one of the most encouraging experience of electronic components I hvae had in years. I dont' normally hear sublte difference between cabling changes etc. But I can hear the mcap now is a very obvious improvment. Very interesting in deed. |
