[#41] 主動式喇叭 / Active Speakers Well, everyone has his preference, like someone driving a Toyota HiAce can still feel he is at a race track, while someone driving a Ferrari can still say the car is not that good . I have the chance to listen to almost all Wharfedale speakers and even most Quad before (they were made by the same factory in China over the past ten years ), so I know the quality, not that bad at that price, but sometimes the workmanship was..... And having a good stereo image is just one of the basic needs for a studio monitor. There are too much to be demanded, and it also depends on the level of the studio. I also own a pair of the NS-10M studio. Wharfedale good or not, depends on the place made in. The new Wharfedale which are made in china give sxxking sounds, that's why I only use their old speakers which are "Hand made in Yorkshire", only made in UK are good for monitoring.

I can see the studio which is Tony working in now have plenty of monitors stored in the silence room which have such type of look.
The old UK speakers look.

For you said "NS-10M", if you are meaning yahama NS-10M passive monitor, then I can tell you, it is a good monitor, but just for nearfield monitoring for mixing works only, but not for music composing monitoring, recording monitoring, mastering monitoring or any else monitoring purposes.
The most reason because it cannot show the all the freq. range out, which make us cannot hear all the freq. easily, but far field monitoring do, my 8" is the minimum far field monitor size.
If you need to monitor the recording of orchestra, at least you need 12" - 15" monitor.
But for most of the popular music monitoring, 8" is ok already.
And the fidelity of NS-10M is good, but not enough, especially not have enough fidelity for far field.
My wharfedale delta 70 衰衰地 still can guarantee to heard all the freq. whatever human ear can hear or not, I can see its strong 5Hz and 2Hz vibration of its bass diaphragm sightly which have never been filtered away like the entertainment hifi systems. It may show some hyperwaves too if you have such input sources.
I've tested I can hear its 19000Hz - 19500Hz about clearly from my monitor. And its bass driver can still give the solid and detail punchy true bass sounds recorded from the sources and not from the colors, so that i can compose my synth. very low subbass easily although this monitor are all freq. flat.

Then why mixing need such type of small and cheaper monitors? because if you refer your result of mixing by the far field monitors, there are would only some speakers outside can heard your sounds good; but if you refer your mixing result by such near field monitors, if the sounds good come out from the near field, then most of the speakers outside can play your product in good sound. that why we need both large far field monitors and small near field monitors in the same studio for good jobs, just like the studios oversea.

But for near field monitoring, Tony rather use the Fostex 4" 6301 series instead.
He told me, because they exactly 平平無奇 enough, absolutely no any freq. 特色, but details and fidelity for near field is guarranteed.
He have at least 6 fostex in his mixing studio room.

Just for reference.
The photo shows a great audio mastering studio in Germany. The used equipment are from "Studer"; you can see that there are few nos of active monitor (Studer A5) seat-in, which are made in Swiss.

Hi all,

Have anyone purchased the wireless Dynaudio Xeo 3? How is the sound quality compared with other Dynaudio model? If the sound quality is similar to sub 15k quality then it is a bargain already as it does not required amp and speaker cables. It could be a simplest system(perhaps second set in bed room or study room) - Logitech Touch -＞ Toslink -＞ Dynaudio Xeo 3. Do you know anywhere I could audition the Xeo 3?
