[#6178] Rachmaninov Piano concerto no.2 Hi Rickymartin, I don't have the CD you mentioned. If you would like to have other recording of Rachmaninov Piano concerto No.2, you could try this one played by Richter. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B000001GQD/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/102-3485557-4670503?ie=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n=5174 ![]()

[#6188] Recommended fish To me, Brendel is a great interpreter of late and deep Schubert. I have his earlier "Trout" with the Cleveland Quartet on Philips somewhere but damn it the CD refuses to materialize just now. My impression is that it's good but not outstanding. About Brendel's later Philips account, I have yet to make its acquaintance. The Penguin Guide says it's warmer and yes I guess it helps. At this moment I am listening to the Christoph Eschenbach / Koeckert Quartet account on DG Classikon. I think I can feel the freshness in young Eschenbach's music-making (recorded in the mid-60s), although the piano sound does not exactly stand out. On the whole, it's a happy union. One might want a little more body and warmth in the piano, perhaps. The unassertive approach of Eschenbach (and his colleagues) has a fine side to it, and it certainly isn't wanting in Viennese allure, which reminds me of the effortless grace in his cycle of Mozart's piano sonatas. For instance, the pace in the charming "Andante" is just about right to the ear (7'02). Lympany's is too fast (6'27), while Richter is way too slow (8'28!). And the magical thing is, it occurs to me that these are all refreshing performances and are profoundly enjoyable. So, glory be to the composer! The next "Trout" I would want to invest in: Haebler + Grumiaux et al on the inexpensive Belart label. I expect that things are done in handsome style there. The most recent "Trout" played in a public concert in HK: Feb 2006, 李嘉齡 + 李傳韻 + 梁建楓 + 宗小謙 + 鮑力卓. ![]()

[#6194] Fabio Biondi on Tactus (1988) Vivaldi: CONCERTI PER ARCHI (TACTUS TC-67220101) This is Fabio Biondi (1988) before he founded the Europa Galante in 1990 and has gone on to build a considerable following worldwide. It may not be as multifarious in expressiveness as Giuliano Carmignola, but no doubt it's very fresh. Certainly its pace cannot be faulted. It charms and is a fine Vivaldi CD for repeated listening. Carmignola's Vivaldi in comparison sounds showy, but the thrill of excitement in abundant supply in his DG CDs is quite an experience. ![]()

[#6197] Fabio Biondi on Tactus (1988) Hi trazom, thanks for recycling the photo. -- To follow up my message on the "Trout": At long last I managed this afternoon to find where my Brendel-Trout is (Philips 400 078-2). I am playing it at this moment, and find that it's not as uninteresting as I thought it was. This CD is one of my first ... well.. five CDs. I should think that it is a safe recommendation for the fish. ![]()
