| [#681] AudioNote Ongaku - I am in pain! Hello all. Thanks for all your help. I have now ordered an Ongaku that I will pair with my M7 preamp which then can be used either as a phono only or as a full function preamp into the Ongaku. Speakers will be several Avantgarde models with 107-109dB sensivity and 16-18 ohms impedance. Btw. I find some of the models a little bright on top and therefore have several different resistors (Duelund) to choose from so I can fine tune the sound if needed. Just make sure that you won't place your M7 10' away from the Ongaku. The difference between all generations of full function M7 and M7 phono is all M7 phono have an extra cathode follower output stage to lower the output impedance for lengthy cable connection. Theoretically this extra stage will add some coloration to the sound but the lowered impedance and dedicated PS & isolation should justify the added cost of M7 phono. |

| [#686] AudioNote Ongaku - I am in pain! (Disclaimer, only GZ37 I tried is the CV378 fat bottle) GZ34 and GZ37 give quite very different sound. The GZ37 more punch, and there is more bass. The GZ34 more refined, more "elastic". So it may or may not be an upgrade, depending on taste. But I think having both is a good thing, as different 211 mate better with certain rectifier tubes. I have a suspecion that United 211 goes better w/ GZ37 and RCA 211 with GZ34..... (but United 38111 sound very different from the later version w/ the glass getter.... so there isn't really a straight answer......) |

Original there is one pair of JJ 803S and one pair of Sylvania 6189/12AU7WA + one JAN Phillips ECG 6x4W. Is there something more to get out out this preamp with better tubes? What about something like Telefunken 803S and/or 802S for example? Any recommendations? |

| [#688] M7 which tubes? Since nobody else seems to have any opinion on this subject I can answer myself ;-) Now I am using Telefunken 803S which is stupidly expensive, but work fine. Especially vocals are much clearer than other ECC83 tubes I have tried and there is clearly less muddiness in the midrange. Have not tried to change any of the other tubes so if any has experience with that and found something that is clearly better than original please let me know. |

| [#695] AudioNote Ongaku - I am in pain! My Ongaku is now playing at my dealers house with standard tubes (WW2 GE211, Jan Phillips 5687, JJGZ34 and 6072). I am so lucky that I have Mullard and Phillips GZ34, GE triple mica 6072 and also United and RCA 211 ingoing + two different 5687's so things can only get better :) One of the "experts" here also telling that the Ongaku need a couple of hundreds hours before it fully broken in so I think this can be good :) It's is playing with Avantgard Primo at my dealers house today and I also have several different Avantgarde speakers that it will be used on when I finally get's it home (Duo Omega, Mezzo, Primo and Trio). |

Hello all Ongaku is finally playing at home :) After using it a few days and doing just a little bit of tube rolling my best description about the Ongaku is: It just like a "perfect" Bourgogne wine. It's not at all about raw power, but all about resolution and finesse and when you hit the perfect balance it is pure magic. Many of you, fans of Ongaku, must have googled and seen this picture with a text below: "The Mega Ongaku : Well, if there WAS a 2 million watt single ended amplifier, it would look something like this. Actually it's a test set for 2 million watt transmitter tubes.The big round thing on top is the cooling tank.The 2 megawatt tube (which weighs over 150 lbs/70 kg) is the small thing with the white base underneath the tank (that the lady is sitting next to). Needless to say, she doesn't hang around when they pull the switch on this puppy...the tube itself has about 17,000 volts on the anode at something like 60 amps....according to Eimac, the lights in the entire factory dim when this test set is powered up!"  |
