[#61] 入過電腦的cd會永久衰聲? hercules 兄，他都知我是誰啦。有人有個人意見，我沒有什麼回應，但指鹿為馬部份不得不多點闡釋。寫手有好有壞，發燒友/網友也一樣。討論本來應該對事不對人，不知 frappeccino 兄又有沒有試過放隻 CD 入電腦之後，感覺它變了聲呢？變了聲，是好了抑或衰了呢？是因為自己錯覺，還是真的被電腦弄壞了呢？這才是真正的討論啊！其實，我早在個多月前，在這裡的「CAS 同好會」討論題目中提出過這議題，當時大家反應是「CHI X 線」，我何嘗又不是同一想法，寫得這題目，我早預計惹火，但寫一些悶東西又不過癮呢…現在大家各有意見，有人分享自己 CD 的變聲實況，也有人發現根本無分別，這些真實經驗足可為其他人的重要參考啊！但有人借題發揮找人發洩，就不值得鼓勵了。不是嗎？		§中國人§ 正式會員 58.xxx.xxx.218	2010-03-11 12:32

Actually I have an idea of firstly listen a brand new disc on CD player, then ripping same disc for 10 times, compare the 1st rip and 10th rip file, and listen to the CD again by CD player.

If the 1st and 10th rip files sound the same on the CAS, but on the CD player significantly sound worst than first read, that's means the data on the disc was unchange, while CD player reading is significantly affected by various factors that changed the disc physical properties (magnetized, static?) but not the data.

That's means the CD drive is too sensitive, or not consistently giving same reading result, the resultant sound is not only relying on good drive design and quality software, still subject to various unknown factors, then CAS maybe a more consistent performer than CD player in this case, so the major problem is not ripped disc gone bad, but CD player is not consistent as you think, so many tweaks give sound changes that's made you think it's fun, but spent you a lot of hard earned money and time, it's quite a big deal indeed.

It would be nice if someone experienced ripped CD better than original CD. Then you can rip and re-rip and re-rip to get a better and better CD! Better than SACD, XRCD, LPCD and you can call it RRCD (rip rip CD)!

As far as I know, only a specific lazer wavelength can read CD. So even if you use CD-ROM or DVD-ROM to read the CD (whether in a hi-end CD player or computer), the drive must first recognize the media is a CD, then adjust the lazer to read it. For DVD, the lazer is re-adjusted to use smaller wavelength because the tracks are narrower. It's almost like using a key to open a door. If the wavelength does not match, the drive simply cannot read the disc and show error. So I cannot think of any reason why a computer CD/DVD drive can damage a disc, unless it is scratched by the drive.

I don't think it's meaningful if you rip a disc and burn it back to a CD-R, you do ripping actually you are free from optical pickup and error coreection mechanism by store them on solid state media.

The improvement only made if when your burned CD-R have lower BLER than mass pressing CD, and the BLER can't be further lower by rip and burn again, as all BLER been eliminated by ripper like EAC once you store the original disc image in harddisk.

And the cost of getting such improvement can be costly, a few master quality CD-R costed over $20 each can archieve low BLER better than good CD pressing plant like sonopress germany, JVC Japan.

and reality is, CD-R still having much lower reflectivity index than normal Aluminium CD coating, not mentioned 24K, silver and other alloy metal, plus high transperency materials, versus normal Polycarbonate plastic found in CD-R.

one of the reason i can think of is the dimension inner rim of the disc is bigger than before, when high speed reading, the inner rim is grinding against the spindle of the drive, for ripping, not a big deal as software can re-read it till correct.

But in the case of cd player, the disc can't be hold at dead center of the spindle of cd player, playback at 1x realtime, the error correction maybe working more frequently, but the cd player won't tell you the error correction is working so hard.

it brother have precision measurement tools, and some laser non-contact measurement on spinning disc can give some clue, but i can't!

你講呢樣野做過, 吾覺得有變化!

好多時每個人既聽覺, 能聽到既頻率都吾同
與其懷疑, 不如先去做一個聽覺檢查, 聽覺無問題, 再去下定論!

BLIND TEST我又玩過, 我同朋友講話換左隻CD, 其實都係同一隻, 結果佢又話有分別!

所以好多時有的野, 係心理影響? 定真係自己聽到有分別?
