[#8163] Franck Violin Sonata It seems that her violin 好響 and thats good to me... Not sure if that is due to amplification... on 13Oct city hall, Iskandar Widjaja playing with HK Sinfonietta, Carmen Fantasy type showpieces, I'm at the 5th or 6th row but find his violin sounds very very soft

[#8164] Franck Violin Sonata I think the first two encore works are 2nd and 3rd movement of Schubert Violin Sonata D384... not Mozart...

[#8165] Franck Violin Sonata I felt regret when listening to the radio, especially when I remembered that she hasn't recorded any Beethoven Sonatas so far. 最後修改時間: 2013-11-01 02:07:25

[#8166] Maazel: The Ring Without Words "The Ring Without Words" is pretty good for me who don't understand German and have difficulty to deal with 18 hours long opera. I still remember the painful experience on watching the DVD, of course not because of the music but the total mental exhaustion. Hearing this and a few senses come back to the memory is good enough for not-so-die-hard opera guy like me. :) The only thing I don't like tonight is the programme arrangement of Siegfried Idyll. I don't see too much value on playing the piece in the common hall, although they explained the 'history'. The area is so vastly spacious, that most of the micro-dynamic, reverbrance and harmony were gone, disappeared from nowhere. It's very much like hearing a poorly recorded good performance. Also, Maazel is very old and he walked down the staircase WITHOUT accompanier to the podium. (He actually held the rail of the podium with one hand very often during the main performance) I was worried what if he felt down unfortunately. Some audiences are also senior and had to stand for 20 minutes. During the performance, I heard lot of background noise, children were running; workers were busily packing up the chairs and facilities of the concert pre-talk, phones rang, etc. I think it ruined the effort of the 13 principals, they played well. I hope HKPO management pays more respect to the musician, audience, conductor instead of PR. 最後修改時間: 2013-11-03 00:42:36

[#8172] Du Pre: Franck Cello Sonata, 1971 I tend to agree that it should be a Cello's work, instead of violin, especially when it's played by Du Pre. She always pours her emotion into the bow and string, that I was deeply moved every times. The box sound, the string, are telling the audience about her story, her message. Sometimes I even try to avoid listening to her as the inner would always be stirred upside down. Here, the way Barenboim accompanied sounds very much like husband looking at his wife with delicacy, with love, leaving her freedom, always standing behind and looking after her. The 3rd movement sounds really much like they heard the news that she suffered from the sclerosis and would slowly lose the ability to play any instrument. (Actually this is her last recording) .The 4th movement, much likes she was sitting in the wheel chair, accompanied by Barenboim, went out for a walk in a beach, ruminated on the shared happiness and sadness. All of a sudden, they heard this, someone were practicing in a house not far away. Sorry, too much crazy imagination. In fact, I'm hearing Glenn's Goldberg Variations, cooling down my head. ![]() 最後修改時間: 2013-11-04 21:39:31

[#8174] Gioconda de Vito: Franck Violin Sonata, 1955 This is included in the box set. The first impression is that the melody is flowing without any sense of break. I'm not saying that there is unnecessary break on other versions, the blow seems to be infinite long and kept being pulled in one direction only, very interesting. This is a mono recording. Sound quality is good, though the piano is a bit too bright. ![]() Grade **** - Martyz (Korea printed 13 CD set): Bach, Schubert - Haskil Beethoven/Schumannn Piano concerto (Claves 50-2408) - Martyz Mozart/Beethoven Violin Sonata (Tower records, PROA-15) - Heifetz Zigeunerweisen (BSCD2, SICC-30079) - Glenn Partita BWV 829,830 (SICC 10166-7) - David Oistrakh Shostakovich Violin concerto #1 (Sony MHK 63327) - Kempff: Beethoven Piano Sonatas, disc #4 (DG 447 966-2) Grade *** - Gioconda de Vito: Franck Violin Sonata, (Korea printed 10 CD set) - Kempff: Beethoven Piano Sonatas, disc #1 (DG 447 966-2) - Heifetz: Tchaikovsky Serenade melancolique (Naxos) - Glenn: Goldberg Variation 1956 - Lipatti: Bach/Mozart/Scarlatti/Schubert (Art/GROC) - Dennis Brain Mozart Horn Concertos, EMI 5 56231-2 - Martyz: (Korea Printed 13 CD set): Brahms violin concerto - The Young Martha Argerich, vol.2 (IDIS 6626) - Milstein Lalo Spanish Symphony (Claves 50-2708) Grade ** - Lipatti: Chopin, Art/GROC - Grumiaux/Haskil Beethoven Violin Sonatas (DECCA) - Furtwangler: Brahms Symphony No.4 (TOCE 3792) Grade * - Annie Fischer: Beethoven/Mozart Piano Concerto (Palexa, CD-0515) - Wanda Landowska, Goldberg Variations (RCA 赤盤復刻, BVCC38220) 最後修改時間: 2013-11-05 21:09:23

[#8177] Gioconda de Vito: Brahm Violin Sonata, 1954 This is also my first record of Edwin Fischer, who was highly praised by Andras Schiff in his lecture. According to the booklet, she was invited to play #1 in front of Pope Pius XII in 1956. This audio quality is better than the last one. ![]() Grade **** - Martyz (Korea printed 13 CD set): Bach, Schubert - Haskil Beethoven/Schumannn Piano concerto (Claves 50-2408) - Martyz Mozart/Beethoven Violin Sonata (Tower records, PROA-15) - Heifetz Zigeunerweisen (BSCD2, SICC-30079) - Glenn Partita BWV 829,830 (SICC 10166-7) - David Oistrakh Shostakovich Violin concerto #1 (Sony MHK 63327) - Kempff: Beethoven Piano Sonatas, disc #4 (DG 447 966-2) - Gioconda de Vito: Brahms Violin Sonata #1,3 Grade *** - Gioconda de Vito: Franck Violin Sonata, (Korea printed 10 CD set) - Kempff: Beethoven Piano Sonatas, disc #1 (DG 447 966-2) - Heifetz: Tchaikovsky Serenade melancolique (Naxos) - Glenn: Goldberg Variation 1956 - Lipatti: Bach/Mozart/Scarlatti/Schubert (Art/GROC) - Dennis Brain Mozart Horn Concertos, EMI 5 56231-2 - Martyz: (Korea Printed 13 CD set): Brahms violin concerto - The Young Martha Argerich, vol.2 (IDIS 6626) - Milstein Lalo Spanish Symphony (Claves 50-2708) Grade ** - Lipatti: Chopin, Art/GROC - Grumiaux/Haskil Beethoven Violin Sonatas (DECCA) - Furtwangler: Brahms Symphony No.4 (TOCE 3792) Grade * - Annie Fischer: Beethoven/Mozart Piano Concerto (Palexa, CD-0515) - Wanda Landowska, Goldberg Variations (RCA 赤盤復刻, BVCC38220) 最後修改時間: 2013-11-06 21:28:47

[#8179] Britten: War Requiem, Maazel Have been silent for a while, but the recent concert by HKPO were great, under Jaap von Zweden, Lorin Maazel, HKPO found their soul, played with their heart on sleeves. Last night was another moving concert experience, HKPO and HKPO choir's performance could easily bring tear to my eye under the baton of great Mastero Lorin Maazel, Thank you.

[#8180] Britten: War Requiem, Maazel Britten is really a genius in writing vocal/choral works - although complicated, his writing is "user-friendly" and utterly effective. It was a really fun experience singing in this epic work. Glad to know (from attending friends) that the final outcome was quite good. Hope to hear this from the RTHK broadcast. ![]() 最後修改時間: 2013-11-09 00:48:30
