[#8242] DSD Hi Eric Hing, I am always puzzled about piano recording. To me there are different recording styles about piano recording. Some of the best ones do give the 3 dimensional sense with the notes running from left to right as well as from front to back.(usually more distant micking to give the 3 dimensional sense as well as the height of the piano) Some will give more sense of the touch as you said feeling the fingers released(usually with more close miking like putting 2 mics very close to the strings)but this many a time will lose the 3 dimensional sense except in really excellent recordings when you can have both I think. The most recent Esoteric SACD of Chopin piecse by a Japanese pianist did give a very realistic picture of the piano. One of my friends who actually witnessed Lang Lang playing an upright piano in very close proximity he said the expressions are even more revealing than listening to a recital using the Steinway Concert grand.

[#8243] DSD It may be one of the fascinating areas of good quality mono recording. It seems to result more 'live' feeling by eliminating certain 'stereo' effects that is not very often experienced in real life, such as positioning, imaging, etc. Of course, the spatial effect disappears as well, which certainly is a drawback. As Eric hing mentioned, if one is close to a piano, fingering may be 'visualised' through sound. However, even away from the distance of chorus, I believe it is not anymore. Sound from each string meshes together as it's spreading away from the source. Good sound is not equal to Original sound. It's my belief. For DSD vs DXD vs LP vs SACD vs XYZ, up to now, I am a supporter of the 'good-enough' strategy. Technologies, personal taste, preference are always changing. We already have more than how many we can hear in our life. 最後修改時間: 2013-12-17 01:02:02

[#8248] 台上一分鐘,台下十年功.... ".. you should be able to do it slowly comfortable..." That's very true and applies to any instrument learning. Anyway, everyone would be extremely nervous playing in front of maestro and being recorded! Poor boy :P

[#8251] Sibelius Violin Concerto - Camilla Wicks In connection to the 3rd movement of Sibelius Concerto by a student with Zukerman in youtube last night.... This is perhaps the recording that Sibelius himself greatly admired. Her playing of the accent notes (eg 24:38) in the 3rd movement is very obvious, each of them sounds like a sudden attack then relieves completely, seldom heard other violinists play this way. The three double stoppings at 26:43 is a great of contrast to the previous ones. 最後修改時間: 2013-12-22 22:38:33
