[#82] Tim's ESL57 Hello, powercord, I guess power cord is not that important. I am pleased with my very old type unknown brand power cords but not original. The speaker cable and stands are more important in this sense. You need to find a good matching cable to justify your esl. I have tried Linn cable, frankly, no good at all. Nordost cable matches very well with my ESL, I guess thin and fast cable will fit the job. Regarding the stand, trust me, get soemthing to lift the esl at least 10" from the floor. It would be a different story. Dennis

[#85] Tim's ESL57 Dear powercord, The clarity and weight of bass have both been improved when lifting up by a proper stand (I'd only spent HK$250 on a pair of local made stands, and it works well. Now I am waiting for an arcici). The use of good cable also helps in the same manner. I am pleased with the cheapest Nordost flatline (vert good with ESL and now settle with their more expensive SPM model, The ESL is so good that I am think upgrading to Nordost Valhalla in future. I heard from Internet there are other solid core cabes such as Geortz or QED works well with ESL. I'd tried cheap tara lab, good vocal but bass is not my cup of tea. Let me put it in this way, I used to turn my Quad 22's volume level to "3" for normal listening level. After all done with better cables, good stand and positioning, I now settle with volume level "2.5". Hope this explain my case for sharing. Good sound, Dennis

[#86] Tim's ESL57 I am also using Arcici stand filled with lead shots. I have been using the cheap XLO (Green and Black one) and now using "Intermezzle" speaker cable. Both of them works fine. I got enough bass. I am satisfied with the result. Please be advised that you are not going to get the strong boom bass like the box speaker (Actually I don't even call that bass, it is just a "boom"). ESL reproduce deep low frequency bass. Nordost cable is interesting. I wouldn't mind to try some of these days.

[#87] Tim's ESL57 Room size and placement of speaker also have great influence on bass. Please be patience and take you times to find out the best spot. I didn't like my ESL57 a bit when I first listen to it. Once you found the right spot, it just sound like heaven on earth!

[#88] Tim's ESL57 Sounds more encouraging. :) But what is 'arcici'? Any photo? and where to buy? how much? I have connected it to Quad ii, things are better now but bass is still weak... so must adopt your advice. Thanks!!!

[#94] Tim's ESL57 I have tried added a sub-woofer and an external tweeter to my ESL57 and the result was no good. Too much lows ruin the mids and highs. I finally decided to stay with just the single quad and found that is the best. Power cord don't make much difference in my case.

[#97] Tim's ESL57 How much is the arcici in total if send to HK? ---------------------------------------------- It is not a matter of price. It is a question of whether you can find any seller willing to deliver to HK.

[#100] QUAD ESL speaker service Dear all, I think the ESL speakers sound too good. Too good that you will not be disappointed even without investing on expensive stands, cables or high-end sources. Simply put your old box speakers back and you can tell how good your ESL are. Having said that, you will also appreciate any improvement with better source, cable, power plant, stands and positioning. To me, the ESL is pushing me hard for higher quality source (that is upgrade to better arm and cartridge, cables etc.) since first bought. I'd already spent heavily on a pair of new Nordost speaker cable more than the price of my ESL. The next upgrade will be replacing my Linn Ittok arm to latest EKOS arm. The nightmare of a new upgrading path had just begun .... So be warned in advance, the ESL is very very very poisonous.
