| [#94] RCA amps and equipment Dear Munhon Hing RCA MI-1428B is a very advance driver, but it is not user friendly at all as field coil power supply is required. By now, it is extremely difficult to locate the original RCA field coil power supply on the market today, which means you have to DIY one by yourself. FYI, the field current for MI-1428B is 1.7 Amp, but not 2 Amp. Please note the specification of MI-1428B as follows: Field Voltage = 13 Volts DC Field Current 1.7 Amp Field Coil DC resistance = 8.4 Ohm Voice Coil Impendance = 4 Ohm Voice Coil DC reieistance = 3.8 Ohm Hence, the quality of field coil power supply and suitable field current is the key of good sound. | [#95] RCA amps and equipment Hi Alan, Many thanks for the info. I know I'll be getting into a lot of "trouble" to get this going. But I cannot forget the music I heard when visitng Oswald Mills Audio's show room in 2010. Heard their AC1 which uses a cogent driver (a modern day version of the MI-1428-B) for the mid range. The AC1 cost US$50k++, so the alternative for me is to build something similar and enjoy the learning process as well. Attaching some pictures of that visit.
