[#102] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi, powercord and VT75 I have 三相供電 in my house and I don't use CD. I usually switch off my DVD player and I separate my turntable power supply from my QUAD tube amp and ESL speaker power cords. I simply plug my ESL power cords to the wall sockets and all my available power cords (I have the old English cords come with the ESL and some cheap beldon) sound the same to me. I can't be too sure on the result of using good power cord or PS power plant. I guess the effect of better powercord and power plant would be more obvious with single phase power supply but not sure.

[#103] QUAD ESL speaker service rsbn589, try to play the female vocal at mid-night... wow.. At night time, I use my ESL to play the radio 4 programme or radio 2's Albert Au live broadcast from my old Mcintosh MR71 tube tuner. The female guest singers ...wow++...wow++...wow++...

[#104] QUAD ESL speaker service I went thru 2 pairs of ESL-57 in the mid Seventies (I was attending university and bought my first pair, which were trade-ins, at Bay Bloor Radio in Toronto for Cdn$650). Having screwed aroud with Martin Logan CLS (no sub woofer), Aerius i , ESL-63 and now a pround owner of ESL-989, I must confess that there are certain qualities associated with the ESL-57 which no other transducers I know of are capable of reproducing. I still remember, rather vividly, listening to Perman playing Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 and Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy (on EMI vinyl) in the my landlord's basement in the mid/late Seventies thru my ESL-57 and was totally flabbergasted . What sets the ESL-57 apart from other transducers/speakers is the fact that ESL-57 are so natural that your attention is drawn to the music being played rather than the means. They simply spell magic!!!

[#107] QUAD ESL speaker service FeiKeung, Do you think ESL-57 is much better than ESL-989? Did you hear the new Quad electrostatic speaker in HK AV show back in August?

[#108] QUAD ESL speaker service >FeiKeung, >Do you think ESL-57 is much better than ESL-989? When it come to reproducing strings (small scale only --- mass strings not included), the ESL-57s (and the DOUBLE QUADs) are simple incomparable. I was told that the voltage across the stators is higher on the ESL-57 than on subsequent models, which employ a voltage protection circuitry. ESL-63 and ESL-989 are different animals. The formers do other things better but can not match the ESL-57’s vividness in reproducing strings (single instrument). >Did you hear the new Quad electrostatic speaker in HK AV show back in August? Sancore Group has never been able to set up, or demonstrate, QUAD ESL speakers properly at previous shows. I did audition the new QUAD at the Hi-End Show back in August and my humble personal opinion, which may not be very humble at times, was that they were either not set up properly or simply dreadful.

ESL57 playing violin sound is something very special. |

[#111] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi, powercord, I don't think you can find any Arcici stand around and I am afraid WE (yes, me as well) have to keep waiting until a or two pairs coming up in the ebay. In the mean time, get some cheap stand, such as those for large AV speakers, to lift your ESL by 10". You can hear the improvement at once. Dennis

[#114] QUAD ESL speaker service I think the ESL speakers sound too good. Too good that you will not be disappointed even without investing on expensive stands, cables or high-end sources. Simply put your old box speakers back and you can tell how good your ESL are. ---------------------- You are more of a music lover than audiophile when you use Quad.
