[#102] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector H2005 If the subwoofer is working, when you turn it OFF ,one will notice the difference. ( Poorer bass, poorer sound stage ). But when its on, and if its integrated with your system, it is as if not present. If one notice its presence even not told, I think the overall sound is not natural.

[#103] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector search1818 bro, so you mean if one is not told about the sub and it's played with the front speakers, it is natural that one would not notice ? Also, I turned the frequency all the way down to 18hz while the default is at around 30, I am not sure if I am doing the right thing. I paid a lot of $ for this REL strata 5. somehow I just don't feel I have the right settings.... I also have no idea on how to tweak the "phase."

[#104] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Search1818; 8 o'clock seems not right in my opinion. For a 15W tube amp, I feel 11 o'clock is more appropriate. I have visited a high-hand who has a 5W single-end driving a super sensitive Fostex full range horn driver. He turned its REL volume all the way to 5 o'clock to match the sensitivity. If Phase 1 is 0 degree, while Phase 2 is 90 degree, then it is more likely 0 degree is right. And grounding is very very important.... But I am happy for you that at least your subwoofer starts on solid ground, so given more tunings, it would become an indispensable part of your system ! My 1st REL took a long long time to fine tune - up / down / more / less - to come to this optimum position. H2005; I guess you read the suggestions I made to Search1818 for tuning the frequency or you read the user manual carefully. I do not know your main speakers, but 18 Hz is definitely not the appropriate frequency setting.

[#105] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Search1818; instead of putting your ground to the pre-amp, can you try hook up like below picture ![]()

[#107] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Oh.... I forget.... so you are probably right to hook up your GND to pre-amp. It is important that your power amp and pre amp are of the same GND. Can you try to find a cable to connect the power amp and pre amp together so that there is no difference in GND. What you describe seems to be a GND problem. ^_^ hifi is such a black hole so that soon you would buy yourself a "balanced" system so that there is no GND problem.

[#108] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Kenny Mine is mono block. There is a diagram in REL manual teaches connection for Mono Block. I just follow that diagram. I just wonder why 8 ohm has such problem but when connect to 4 ohm, there is no such problem. I just find a very slight changes in frequency , say from 65 to 67 will have noticeable changes in high and mid. I have to test again to confirm this. It really tiring.

[#109] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Search1818, from what you described, it seems like a Ground loop problem for me. So I suggest your put a wire between your pre-amp chassis to power amp chassis so that they are of equal Ground. Frequency & Volume level is interactive, and once the subwoofer and main speakers learn to live with each other, the user needs another adjustment. No worries.. once your system settles down, then it would reward you with many years of satisfying listening experience.

[#110] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Try try volume @ 10 o'clock, frequency @ 55 Hz. What music CD you use for testing ?

[#111] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Hi Kenny If I use 1.low level input from Pre amp, the volume need to be 1 o'clock. But if I use 2. output from cdp to low level input or 3. power amp spker output to high level input, Both 2. & 3. turned to 8o'clock is already equal to 1. turned to 1 o'clock I'm using 陳潔麗,陪我看日出, it does not have a lot of bass content, but if the bass is too much the whole song become unnatural easily. There are lots of high and mid content and I can heard ealiy how the woofer is improving them.

[#112] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector Search1818; Thank you. Worry this later la... you can have 2 options to choose from, so either one should be good for you. PS: I am made nervous by tube amp because usually they have 2 challenges. 1st, they may not ground properly, and 2ndly, tube amp's are usually noisy. Electric line is @ 60 Hz, so GND noises can affect a subwoofer. You may need to experiment more. Given that Proac is a 86 dB/watt speaker, and that your amp is only 10-20W, and that Stereophile review on Proac mentions about 55 Hz, I would feel 55 Hz is a good place to start with @ the relative high volume level to compensate the low sensitivity of the Proac.

[#115] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector I have a question on REL. Since it recommends high level input and supplied a 3-wires cable for such connection. If my poweramp is balanced design, how should I wire them? The manual suggests to connect yellow/red to L/R +ve, connect the black wire to chassis (instead of -ve). I feel a bit uncomfortable to connect the cable to chassis. Appreciate REL users can share your experience. tks!

[#117] Neutrik Speakon NL4FC connector hi gary9413 hing, no i don't misunderstand. i know it is shared with main spk. i was questioning the second paragraph: -The standard high level hook up procedure is: attach the red wire to the amplifier's right positive speaker output terminal; attach the yellow wire to the amplifier's left positive speaker output terminal; attach the black wire to which ever of the amplifier's ground output terminals is convenient; plug the Speakon connector into the sub's high level input. -For differential amplifiers using one sub, simply use the standard connecting scheme with the exception of connecting ground to chassis ground, not to speaker output ground, and then connecting into the high level input (Hi Input or Unbal Hi Input on Stentor III and Studio III).
