[#1] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? Music taste ranges from pop/rock/R&B to jazz to classical, mostly jazz and pop (such as Eagles) and R&B. Looking for neutral sound with good sound stage. Listening area 13'(D) x 14'(W) with one side wall 5 to 6 feet away and the other side is the dinning room. Solid state 150W amplification (may be upgraded later). Will keep fir "life" (I think I would still be interested in hifi at most for 10 to 15 more years). Any suggestions?

[#2] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? what u had used, what u dislike ..and..gotta be some sort of preference , for example " I hate Horn" or " Sonus Faber..No way , B&W NG DUCK, WILSON I dislike the tone" " or " i only buy new.." or "Must be 10" bass unit at least" Some neutral sound is at the warm side, some at the cool side.., Nice to know..rear wall distance which can be also why not to tell the model of your AMP, if u may change it..what to be on your list? Amond most sound quality criteria, what u concern the most ? ie tonal balance, Sound stage, image, realism, dynamic ..etc fun to get another speaker ,and within 100K..a lot of choices too, can take u more than month to find which one suit u the most Choices of speaker can be so subjective and personal..haha, and nothing wrong to dislike some brand too , and if u shall keep that for many yr, resell value is not a too big of a concern, therefore your choices can be even moreeeeeeeee good luck for your hunting

[#3] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? I have no particular preference but I have been using Martin Logan. My first choice would be panels but I am open to suggestions (that was why I am asking for recommendation). I would also buy new only (like I said, it would serve for at least 10 more years). I guess the only particular preference would be floor standing but not too big. Neutral sound and I guess a bit of warmth is OK. The front of the speakers can be at most 2.5 ft from the rear wall. Currently using Integra Research RDA-7.1. If I have to upgrade, I would go for something like Bryston (I haven't put much thought about it yet but I do have odd taste and was a fan of Bryston). Tonal balance is the most important (a la neutral sounding). I found anything other than that was very tiring after listening for a while. Sound stage and resolution are the other important factors. I usually would seat down and enjoy the music rather than picking particular passages for the hifi effects (such as counting frogs or looking for a particular note in a bass drum). Thanks in advance.

[#4] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? Hi Olddude, You have been using Martin Logans. Honestly I do not think you are able to find another pair of speakers that are able to match its midrange cleanliness and clarity. Not even the Magnepan 3.7 that I was thinking of recommending to you. The Magnepan has better high frequency, thanks to its ribbon tweeter and slightly better bass because of its planar magnetic mid bass panel. You have to audition it really carefully at Excel HiFi to make sure you will not regret replacing it in the place of the electrostatics. What are the considerations that you want to do away with the Martin Logans? If not enough bass, why not add a pair of woofers and not enough high frequencies, add tweeters then. You may also wish to audition Avant Garde at the local showroom. I really do not know whether they have a pair within the price range you mentioned. Well no harm checking it out. I doubt if you are able to obtain good sound stage and good Left and Right balance given the opening of the other side to the dining area. One way is to install collapsible and sliding panels, like those used in restaurants for room partitioning, but looking better. You enclose the listening area within several minutes before you switch on your system. Another way is to use room correction processing. But then most likely it will ruin the midrange of the electrostatics. Magico may be another option but cone drivers are no match for electrostatics no matter what they say. |

[#5] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? nice, as u have your preference nicely layout 1) new pair at less than 100K 2) Tonal balance is the first priority - since it is an upgrade, and not a changed of Taste, so must be a step or 2 forward from your existing Logan (neutrally warm, non fatigue presentation ) 3) existing amp is an integra, and future may be a byston not an easy suggestion for me, as i have not heard any integra for more than 15 yrs, and bryston from my point of view is not quite "NON fatique . Do have some idea which the Logan can be very enjoyable.. I like to hear some suggestion from other C hing too too haha i am so 8 |

[#7] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? Hi cpu8088, A surprise to me that you recommend some cone speakers other than Focal. Are the Linkwitz speakers available in Hong Kong? If there are Focal speakers within the indicated HK$100K range (that I don't know), then those who have been accusing you vigorously should take note! |

[#11] What would you recommend for $100K speakers?

[#15] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? Oh no, I am not pulling your legs. After auditing a demo of the ML SummitX, my over 10 years old ML all of a sudden sounds like crap (well, I have never been too satisfied with their bass anyway). That was how I got bitten by the upgraded bug. Then again, considering the price of the SummitX, I would not forgive myself if I didn't investigate the alternatives. Actually before I got my pair of ML, I was using a pair of Maggie and I had been using a Bryston 3B with the Maggie and ML before ditching it for the current IR (the system is for AV as well and there isn't much room for too many amps). The "baby" Focal does have a much higher WAF than the monstrosity next to it. The thing is I have not been keeping myself too update with the hifi market. I just don't want to look like an idiot when walking into a showroom and ask them to demo whatever 100K speakers they have on display. |

[#17] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? the flat panels may be a bit old designed 10 years ago, and the problem is quality of the bass. why not consider adding 2 good subs? with your amp suppose multi channel u can choose a good pre/pro with room acoustics equal and calibration, add something like 2 velodyne digital drive subs with equal too to properly integrate with the speakers?

[#18] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? >oh..wondering how much for the SummitX ? $120K listed. Ouch... >why not consider adding 2 good subs Actually I am using a ML sub with it crossing at 35Hz.. The bass does go lower but, the old MLs' bass is still playing a catchup game with the panel. Although my MLs are still in good working condition and still sound pretty sweet, after listening to the SummitX.... the resolution, the transparency, and in particular the deep, fast bass just make me saliva to no end. BTW, the crossover frequency of my old ML is 250Hz, I don't think typical sub-woofers can work at such high frequency. |

[#20] What would you recommend for $100K speakers? your sub is crossed over at 35hz. have u tried crossing over at 60hz or 80hz? make this higher may led the bass units of your ML less work and also less demand from amp. also 2 subwoofers may be better than one. this is to fix the bass. as for the highs perhaps a change of speakers is required. |
