[#32] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Sam hing Don't get me wrong. The photo of ST-2 might denote the possibilities of 1) multipath interferences and 2) suboptimal antenna installation since the reception angle of an omni antenna is 360 degree. To avoid 1) & 2) again, first thing's first*. Put ST-2 at the very top of the roof like 延長了的避雷針#without any blockages and surface reflections** of floor, walls, air-con, fences, etc. to see what happen. It's worth the try. (* not buying an FM sleuth for the moment) #Caution: Please find a qualified technician for such installation! **although some may argue in-phase reflections could actually improve the signal strength for some channels. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-10 16:29:59 |

[#31] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Indeed 205 is not as good value if you compare it to vintage tuner price nowadays. The strength of 205 is not at amplifying signal but to block out interferences and signals of other freq. Can be night and day in certain setups but also pretty useless to some. Have to try to know. When it works, it will be very rewarding. Funny as it may sound, tuner is an odd and interesting example to show how we go backward in hifi. Most older tuners from the 70s can actually outperform modern tuners like Magnum to my ears. I still have a Magnum etude but I now use it in office for casual listening. At home, I an using old Sansui which is far cheaper... Yup, I have cheap taste in case you wonder. :) 最後修改時間: 2013-03-10 12:24:55 |

[#30] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Congrats!!! I prefer not to have any "additional" amplification. Don't forget we may "easily" amplify the weak signal with noise, too. Sleuth 205 will cost you another decent FM tuner. In my system, it could help to improve multipath interferences but no particular use for extremely low signal strength in my experiment. You have to decide if it's a must buy item or not. Try to alter the position of ST-2 to find the sweet spot is worth to try. This is a game of trial and error. Good luck and happy listening 最後修改時間: 2013-03-10 11:41:28 |

[#29] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Congrat! The signal of your area is not that bad after all. As a devil... if ST-2 can get 3.5 perhaps 205 is the next step. My location is at 8-Heung, far worse..... |

[#23] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Sam Hing Let make my point a bit more clearly... No matter how versatile your FM tuner, you must have a proper antenna or multiple antenna(e.g. one omni and one Yagi) to unleash its full potential. But first thing's first. You have to make sure you are not located in some areas all blocked the mountain and terrains. It could be "highly possible" in some locations of your district. But you have to experiment on your own. Just spend a few hundred bucks to install an FM antenna on the roof as "previously suggested" and see what'll happen. At worst, you might lose a few hundred. At best, you might save a couple of thousand for buying a new expensive tuner. The relationship between FM tuner and its antenna somehow replicates a nice phono amp and a cartridge. "Biasing on either side but neglecting another" is not wise. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-07 13:50:04 |

[#22] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club I have tried internet radio, however, I still favour analogue sound. Thanks for your advise _____________________________ You may got me wrong. I am not talking about internet radio but analogue FM ones but with digital display. Something like the attached. In FM tuner, most important element is the reception. I have magnum st2 and 205. They will not do miracle. When the area reception is poor, this kind of digital lock tuner is the only one that can work in relatively acceptable manner. Hope this helps. ![]() 最後修改時間: 2013-03-07 12:51:56 |

[#17] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club If the signal is weak, a compromising way is to use digital tuners (I am not talking about DAB but those with digial display self searching type from the 80s). They can sound flatter and as good but can pick up signal better. Happy listening. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-04 13:44:13 |

[#15] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club I seldom use Wikipedia as a reference in my work. But this link seems to be useful for amateur use and quick reference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_radio_stations_in_Hong_Kong FYI, my tuner can receive RTHK 4's maximum signal strength in 97.6, 98.4, 98.5, 98.7, 98.9MHz respectively with minor interferences. Some FM stations from the Mainland, not shown on the list, are quite nice for listening at times, too. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-03 22:13:04 |
