At that time you were the 飲茶邦邦主，technical and spiritual leader was 鄺大俠。 Later on, 定位李, another technical and spiritual leader, re-started the 週六飲茶 practice that can be dated back to the 1970s or 80s HK, when HK was in economic bloom. From these gatherings I learnt a lot in home audio, particularly from 定位李. I must say thank you, JC, for your hospitality to share your generosity and wisdom on audio. UK is like a late-middle age gentleman, with a brainful wisdom from the long history of running representative governance, but it has loadful burdens from the glorious past such as high maintenance costs for so many historical buildings that the British people (and me) treasure. World War II was the water-shedding line of UK's economic/political bloom and shrink. Australia is like a teenager with lots of possibilities and resources. But it has to prevent itself from bad influences, like communist infiltration, problem of drugs and 左膠政客. Glad that it is on the right track politically. Which country is better for settlement? It is highly personal. For retirees like me UK offers a fair and truly democratic system. 生命有涯 地域無涯 I can't afford to relocate to live in Australia in a sheer decade or two. Australia is where I admire for its naturaness and weather. I should pay it a visit before I am too senile to go. Likewise in audio, restrain greed on stocking hardware. I made a lot of friends and some still in contact until now. We have become "wiser" and "grumpier", sad but that is reality like wrinkles and muscle/memory loss. :-) I think the world is changing whether we like it or not, even when we were young. The difference is we think we know more and new is always not as good.... When was the last time you were in HK? Even in the 80's after living in the UK for 7 years and returning to HK for good, I did not like HK, the space and climate. That's why I chose Australia and became citizen when it was still so primitive compared to Europe. |

Of course if you are healthy enough and there is no reason to act, but others might have healthy or marriage issues, handling these need some expert assistance. I agree that we don't have to give up everything and throw away all, downsizing is to keep something of most attached and give away those less or none, they are there because you have the space or forgotten about them. Obviously size is one key issue, so anything that is huge and heavy are no longer practical. That is why I let go of my Westminster and Trio. :-) |

| [#56] 47 Lab 新傳奇：Shigaclone .. 一名 47 Lab 愛好者的精彩 Blog 文 嚟到呢個小鎮生活, 認識了一位前輩 這位前輩 好有活力七十幾歲, 佢係owner of 一間 在這個 區域 一間比較出名嘅 house clearance company 其中同佢吹水嘅一個話題係downsizing 佢嘅收藏物品當然係mainly 做生意嘅, 差不多20個貨櫃..., 他要退下來了, 正在搵緊多幾個 passionate younger persons who willing to take lead of that operation, 從他口中得知他終於都有興趣 唔工作 做下其他嘢例如去旅行等等 某類人可以積存這麼多東西, 當然有他們獨特的因素, 我個體會係 如果對某類型的東西還有少少追求.. 維持著對一些事物的追求, 好可能會 對downsizing 有所幫助, 誰人都跑不掉downsizing 這個階段的, 因為對事物有所追求, 都可以用3 to 5件舊收藏品 轉化為一件... 都係一個平衡心理及有效嘅做法.... 例如有一些人有兩三萬隻黑膠唱片.. 其實 會攞嚟聽嘅可能得一二千隻.., 如果他們對聽音樂還保持著這個追求, 可以學下streaming..., 咁樣又可以downsizing LP collection and associated equipments, 如果單純的放手.. 好可能會感覺到less happy or even unhappy Haha 最後修改時間: 2024-07-23 16:30:44 |

Don't know if our kids will choose another path and not like their parents... Some might say with the passion and motivation to collect, how do we grow and expand. That is part of the process and the reverse can be expected in life. I threw away a lot of stuffs in the past few years. Over the years, I probably stocked more than 100 boxes - from new cameras (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma, Panasonic), new or 2nd hand lenses, mount adaptors, lens 1.4x/2x multipliers, etc. After 2019 , I trashed over 90% of my loved boxes. What a difficult decison! When there are bigger targets to hit (rent out my workshop, and finally sell my properties), the empty boxes are nothing. My lens stock up to 2012. How many you can recognise? :)  |
