[#22] QUAD ESL speaker service I like them in an equilateral triangle to the listener. Spread them as wide as you can but leaving at least 1M from the side walls and a lot of room behind them. Nearfield is good. They should be pointed straight at you. It is even better if you can measure the top and bottom of the panel of the ESL's to be equal in distance to your ear. For clean and tight bass, it is better to raise them to a height of 14-18" from the floor. The stock feet makes them too close to the floor and this influences the mid bass a bit. Some say though that the stock feet makes them sound good with classical music. Happy listening. |

[#23] QUAD ESL speaker service Just to clarify: When I said as wide as possible, my experience is between 5-7 feet. :) |

[#25] QUAD ESL speaker service >They sound great with stock feet. Don't second >guess designer Peter Walker!! Thanks for the inputs. Peter Walker is my hero too. The ESL's were really designed for classical music and they sound really good in this genre. |

[#26] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi, everybody, Just have an expert visiting my ESL today and the problem was, you are right, the EHT, dropping voltage. The expert also examined the panels, both channels in perfect condition without any black spot found. However, I need to order a pair of EHT for replacement. If possible, I'll find a pair of ESL63 as well for comparison. The expert told me there is a new ESL design coming out this summer but the ESL and 63 till sound much much better than the new comers including the 988/989 series. Will report once recovery. |

[#29] QUAD ESL speaker service Gingers, rcwy, Tim and all brothers, I just have both ESL's EHT boards replaced by new units (cost me GBP118) provided from UK One thing Audio. Now the sensitivity resumed and the ESL really sings loud and open with more depth and better stereo image. The ESL sounds like big speaker. When you have time, call me again for a re-visit. Regards Dennis |

[#31] QUAD ESL speaker service Dennis, I got the ESL stand from Italy via eBay. It just arrived recently. I have yet to put the ESL on it. The seller told me that he think it was made in Italy but I think it is most likely coming from UK. I think they look better than Arcici but not sure if it sounds as good. |

[#33] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi Dennis, Gingers, rcwy , Tim and all brothers…..I just happen to browse around the Web tonight and found the discussion you folks had about the Quad ESL57. It was very interesting and I am surprised so many knowledgeable people about Quad ESL in HK. I think I am that guy living in Tseung Kwan O “nicknick” mentioned about. I am glad now you had your ESL57 fixed and all the problems resolved. Nicknick was right. I do had some repair experience on Quad ESL57. I used to own a pair of double quad made by Radio People in Kowloon. 2 of the bass panel had no sound when I acquired them from an English gentleman. After dismantled, I found the mylar was badly torn due to aging. I went thru all the trouble obtaining the right material and making special tools for the repairing. The most difficult part was the mounting of the mylar and the applying of the conductive material. Anyway, it was quite an experience. Nice talking to you folks. Hope to meet you and have music listening session with you some day (with Quad ESL57, of course). Patrick pcs100@netviagtor.com |

[#34] QUAD ESL speaker service 1) If the seller had more of these stands for selling, can you kindly advise me his contact such as e-mail address. Or, send my enquiry with my e-mail address to the seller for his reply? My e-mail is dkyyu@yahoo.com.hk I have asked and no more is available. But you can also try this seller on eBay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5796660328& 2) Do you mind to advise me the cost including purchase and overseas posting? The stands weigh about 25kg and costed me near 500 Euro include postage. Just the cost of delivery is near 300 Euro. 3) Any problem fixing your ESL to the stand? There are special screws for this job. 4) any dimension provided? That is how tall and how wide is the stand. I have not measure this. 5) Can you adjust the tilting angle and height? No. Those are fixed. |

[#38] QUAD ESL speaker service PCS100, Glad to meet you in the site. The world is so small. Two months ago, I thought I was playing the ESL alone and oww I knew there were friends out there. I am sure very soon we will be meeting each other ESL lovers. Let's wait for Hon's arrival. Tim, Your description is very informative indeed. It's very kind of you sharing with us. In fact I'd particiapted in bidding the same ESL from UK's seller but finally gave up becasue I bought the speakers from Choice hifi in Central instead. The girl in Choice Hi-fi has been very helpful and nice to customers. I think the chance of getting a pair from UK seller is very remote but I'll try. Anyway, thanks again. Dennis |

[#39] QUAD ESL speaker service Hi PCS100, Learning from other review33 thread that you are using Quicksilver to drive your ESL. I guess you may try switching your Quicksilver to 16 ohm output to best match with ESL's weird impedence curve if there is 16ohm on your Quicksilver. Have you tried the QUAD II's 15 ohm output? My ESL sounds very loud and dynamic with the 15W Quad II amp alone. A friend of mine has a plan to build the double QUAD ESL system after hearing the ESL. Hope you can give us some advise when later the project in progress. I am seeking a pair of proper stand for my ESL. Do you use the stock feet or any good sounding tailor made stand you are using? regards Dennis |
