| [#85] 我心目中三大 Steve Hoffman is another great master. The DCC CD's that I have sound wonderful. For Susan Wong, the 1st "Close to you" is fantastic. Others they are not as natural as before -- too hifi. I have not heard "Someone like you". I am surprised if is mastered by Doug though. So I would get a listen. |

Since I left the consultant job for one of the biggest audio distributors, I've been travelling in US/Japan for media related works. Good news is in next 12 months, i will be mainly focus on audio recording, and mastering. Audiophile Jazz Prologue - Part 03 will be using the entirely new Weiss Mastering System. Daniel and I have been worked for years. You will read more about it around November audio magazines and on new website. The release date will be on Dec. 2007. Then there are couple of jazz releases target on early next year. These records are made with purely multi-track DSD 2 years ago, and we all have been waited the best technologies to convert for CD release. Plus there is an interesting project i'm working on to have hi-res recording on files, and playback by a firewire DAC. | [#89] 我心目中三大 And for my contribution: I think friends here are counted more towards audiophile recording type. In history of recording, we are at a time which the quality, workflow and entire target groups split the most between different types of music towards different types of people. (1) Doug Sax. He has to be the one. But i found he has rebult an entire new surround studio with ATC150A. He used to have all electronics and processing designed and built by his brother Sherwood Sax @ 1966 until recent years. Many don't know Sony New York Mastering Studios had 10 of these Sherwood Sax Power amplifiers. I never hear one myself but i heard they are legendary good sounding but not easy to service anymore. bTw, I agree that Keith engineered old Susan Wong records sound better. (2) Bernie Grundman, and even the HipHop mastering engineer Big Bass Gardener. (3) Recent days, whenever I'm listening to good sounding taiwan recordings (well their recording quality level is so much better than we do here in local pop scene.) I read his name: David Yang 楊大緯 - Very good taste engineer to find suitable dynamics for different audiences. Bests, Kent |
