[#3] Sound reproduction - extracts & reflections In CHAPTER 2 Preserving the Art of Sound reproduction, it mentions an interesting piece of research. The gist is: "The result of 250 frequency response measurements made at the engineer’s location in many recording control rooms, using functionally similar Genelec loudspeakers". 250 frequency response measurements! At various studios, using similar Genelec speakers. A lot of research workload. The result is startling. Different studios have widely different frequency responses. The author has not specified how prestigious these studios are. But it does point to the fact that how bad mastering may be achieved in some studios. The author goes on to talk about ... |

[#4] Sound reproduction - extracts & reflections what they call the “circle of confusion”. It means there is a circle of people involved in any sound reproduction chain. ONE KEY factor is the studio and professionals. The attached paragraphs explains very well how chaotic the standard could be given different studio responses, how music is produced in these studios as different 'references', and how these 'references' by individual professional are used to be wrong references (for their own) and perpetuate their own mis-mixing job. Of course another factor is consumer's speakers. But we're more familiar with this critique though. |
