I did proivded different Ag content solder wire to a DIYer to make Interconnect cable. He prefered Silver contect 4% ＞ 3% ＞ 2%. Of course it is only his preference. Another DIY perfers Lead wire, the more Lead the better according to his experience.

So there is no absolute "Good sound" solder. My 2 cents.

都係買牌子貨
唔會好似你地咁check
我以前公司係日本上巿既廠都無咁做
只係用光普儀測有無鉻呀果一d rhos唔可以有既物料
Consumer既野好少好似你地咁
無鉛產品多，你叫佢地用有鉛仲難

If using a branded solder, the solder manufacturer already did all the necessary tests under J-STD-001 or 004. That's why the user will not do the tests themselves. Also the user will not invest on the testing equipment which will not improve their productivity.

I think there is no responsible manufacturer, no matter it is US, Germany or Japan, will use a solder which does not pass the tests under J-STD, DIN of JIS standard.

Not exactly...我地係end user, 係要"瀉鑊"個party，一定要知，我地好多supplier都知，佢地判俾二判三判都知，大家都知點玩，政府都知，齊齊有個落台階，大家好做。
大家可能行業不同，所以有不同既理解吧。

羅密歐 Hing

2% - Sn62/Pb36/Ag2. It is considered as Leaded solder. Developed to solder component with silver surface.

3% - Sn96.5/Ag3/Cu0.5 (SAC305) - Most common Lead-free alloy.

4% - Sn96/Ag4 - A high silver content Lead-free alloy. Preferred by Semiconductor industry.

I would say process engineer together with IQC engineer should know the IPC or J-STD tests. If for a procurement engineer, they may not need to know, they just need to ask their subcontractor to confirm the solder is qualified to do the job. Then process engineer of the subcontractor will ensure the solder passes the necessary tests.

However as mcc_2001 suggested, the more you know, the better you can 瀉镬.
