[#1] 2.0 or 3.1 setup for watching movies only I already have a decent 2-ch music setup in the room. Now I want to upgrade the movie setup in the living area. Recently I have been using a cheap entry level AV system for watching movies, they are Marantz NR1506 + Wharfedale Diamond 220 + 220C, which are OK for movies, my home condition does not allow me to set up the surround speakers, so I only use the front and center speakers. However I sometimes watch Blu-ray Opera/Concert discs and not satisfy with the sound quality of this setup. My upgrade plan is to have a new 65” 4K Oled TV, and have a mid-price AV system, for example: a) 3.1 setup: Marantz SR6012 + MA Silver 100 (bookshelf) + C150 + W12, with an OPPO 203 as source. b) 2.0 setup: Marantz PM8006 + MA Silver 200 (floorstanding), with an OPPO 205 as source. The above setups are just examples for easy discussions. I just wonder if it is at similar price, would a 2-ch setup (b) close to the performance of a 3.1 setup (a) for watching movies only? Should I go for (a) or (b)? Please provide your advice. Many thanks in advance! |
