It is not fair to HTPC if I said Mac is better becuase I don't know how much tuning effort you will spend on your HTPC. May be I can answer you in this way....... Unless you are a expect in HTPC tunning and also wiling to spend time + money on shielding / Power / Under-clock / casing / insulation / ...... Mac + Weiss DAC2 has a much better performance. Mac + Weiss DAC2 also has an ultimate upgrade path.....using Amarra Player. |

| [#3] HTPC, MACBOOK,NAS那一樣接駁WEISS DAC2較佳 From my own experiences, Mac + Weiss + Amarra is the best CAS to me......that is not the reason why I started to work with Weiss, but it is THE reason why I want to work with Sonic. And I am using their pro softwares for mastering too. Getting the data from NAS is not a problem and won't affect the quality. We store all our music data on a PC and get the files by ethernet too. |

| [#4] HTPC, MACBOOK,NAS那一樣接駁WEISS DAC2較佳 When using firewire, we don't need to fine tune a HTPC. I am a Windows user and it works fine with my Weiss dac2 in the past. For mac, you need to pay for good sound optional software package. While PC, there are many open source media player that sings very nice such as foobar and cPlay. Anyway, Weiss dac2 is full of fun if you find your way to fully utilize it. Happy listening. |

| [#5] HTPC, MACBOOK,NAS那一樣接駁WEISS DAC2較佳 Plenty of fun indeed. Have been trying a lot of upgrades with my HTPC/iTunes/Minerva setup. The improvements resulted from changes I made/tested so far is just amazing. Initially my CAS was about 85% as good as my 90k CD player, while costing half as much. After some tweaks and a few hundred dollars, it was close to 95%. Further with some major upgrades making them even in value, my CAS is now at about 150%. I just auditioned an upgrade which gave the weiss in another system more than 100% improvement!! Cant wait to try it in mine. I have also tried a brief test using a laptop in my system. Running on battery, is was about 80% against the HTPC and about 85% when A/C adapter is plugged in. Any PC laptop or MacBook user have heard any difference using adapter vs battery? |

| [#9] HTPC, MACBOOK,NAS那一樣接駁WEISS DAC2較佳 小弟使用了Mac mini(2x200GB HD)(burmester PC)+ Amarra Mini(Siltech G7 firewire)+ Weiss minierva(Aet SIN PC)差不多一個月時間,在不断upgrade之後發現玩CAS日後還有很大發展(進步)空間,暫時來說,小弟試過以下幾點都對部Mac mini都有非常正面的影響,或可向大家分享吓： 1.將Mac mini之火牛位加個IEC adapter($25),再換條美式電源線.這是最便宜亦是最有明顯分別的改進. 2.不同牌子嘅firewire線(等如訊号線)亦有非常大之差別.現改用了Siltech嘅firewire之後,才發覺之前之firewire雞線由Mac mini出之音源是偏薄無肉,欠缺感情及太數碼味. 3.Amarra,這播放軟件能提升不小,令整體更具音樂味,更模擬化. 現在這個玩法巳可把我70K的CD player在任何一面都遠遠拋離,現在正計劃更换: 1.USB線,相信亦是重要訊源橋樑之一. 2.更換火牛內部電容及零件,這個需要找熟手朋友幫手. |

| [#11] HTPC, MACBOOK,NAS那一樣接駁WEISS DAC2較佳 非常同意jj兄的分享， 我也changed pc, slitech FireWire and amarra. The diff is day and light. One more thing to share, I found there is significant diff for file plays from external hdd through USB and from internal hdd. Sound from file in internal hdd is significantly better in both end extention. However, the internal hdd size limit is a great concern( most of my files 96/24). I am finding way, a external hdd with 2FireWire such that 'daisy' chain is avaliable maybe a potential solution, since I believe mac-＞hdd-＞weiss is better than hdd-＞mac-＞weiss given you play from external hdd. |

If the data is buffered in the RAM, then wifi transfer from external HDD to MACBOOK or PC may be a better option. Furthermore, you can now set up different music access points (living room, study, bed room etc) as long as you have a notebook computer and a small DAC at each location (or a SqueezeBox). |

Initially, many believed that with Weiss, just plug-in firewire and the performance is perfect. I was very skeptical this early observation. Sounds too good to be true (like salesman talk about a product). It is not so good news for those who believed firewire and asynchronous communication solving all problems. However, it is good news for many audiophiles as there are rooms to tweak. It is going to be a lot of fun trying different tweaks. |

There is no reason why 2 platform sounds differently when both are output data identical sources. Why you will choose between MAC or PC? I think this can be a FAQ that because people use different programs to handle digital audio library. There are plenty of them: Foobar, cPlay, iTunes, Media Monkey, Songbird, and also professional softwares such as Wavelab, Pyramix, Sadie etc. All of these programs have their own strengths and weaknesses, and one we found the best will be iTunes (IMHO). I just read that you downloaded the remote app which is free and allows you to use iPhone/iPAD/iPod touch to select song. The album artwork is even shown on your wireless device. This is a great benefit on an open system. Now if iTunes is your preferred GUI, than Mac is a better platform, not only it is designed by Apple, but there are softwares (Amarra) which allows you to pair with iTunes and solved the rather complicated iTunes problems. (Automatically switch sampling rates). |

I don't mind to learn again on the mac but when come across with the library server, would it be a nightmare for me ? |
