(About playing LP and files... from 英倫再上路)

Yes, I play LP, file and CD. Mainly on classical music.
This is funny to walk around charity shop/ car boot sales for hunting.

I have a long history of playing LP since the late 1970s but also a long history of not playing LP since MC was widely accepted as an audiophile standard probably in early 1980s. I threw away my Kenwood KT600 雲石盤 and SME 3009 tonearm to the bin. How stupid was I. :)

Files... yes, I like playing files, FLAC in particular with JRiver as skin and JPlay as player. This way the boss of JRiver objects and does not support JPlay. So I still use JR18 (JR33 will be launched soon).

JRiver for DSD is fine. JPlay for FLAC is musical... Files sound better than (or on par) CD. This is a long story that I cut short.

The playing of files or CAS (computer as source) has not been long established.

In HK, its popularity only since 2010 or after? The pioneers invariably used MAC computer and MAC supported software and files. Honestly, the sound quality was/is far from desired. It was worse than sheer CD on a very average CD machine. Being dry, coarse.... etc. Unmusical in short.

With the advent of more Windows-based software players (Windows is an open platform), the scene has become vivid and attractive. It was at this point in time (early 2014) I jumped onto the bandwagon. Basically I model my files/CAS system after 定位李's files/CAS system (hardware, software and sound files). He adjusted various 數據 panels in the software player and delete poor files (it is fact that some files are not listenable), based on his audiophile ears.

The "fastest", the "strongest" or the "most advanced" choices in panels do NOT always give the optimal sound. It is a cohort of the "internal system". 定位李 has thence written a note or manual on how to adjust the various panels in JRiver/JPlay to achieve a very analogue, musical sound from files/CAS!

Quite a large number of people like to regard "technical superiority" as the possibility to get good sound. They regard the ability to name some new hardware DAC, software players, some technical terms and technical jargons as the knowledge to enable them getting good sound. Of course, it is a hope in vain. But it is difficult to make them understand.
