[#6] EmmLabs cdp Mr. Meitner (the owner of Emmlab) is the person who help Sony developed the technology of SACD. |

[#7] EmmLabs cdp EMM labs one box SACD player is called "CDSA" for old version. New version is "CDSA SE". I have auditioned both players. Regarding the sound, both players are excellent. But the old version has some bugs regarding the transport mechanism. So you need to bear the possible risk buying a 2nd hand CDSA. |

[#8] EmmLabs cdp Dear Simcity, I have a CDSA SE...have you tried upgrading the software yourself? Also wondering why there isn't any EmmLabs Club in R33??? would you like to take the lead to set one up.... Dear Crazysoap, Guest the 2nd hand price for CDSA is around $50,000-ish depending on quality, import or dealer goods etc....also they should all have SACD...check this link http://www.emmlabs.com/html/audio/cdsa/cdsa.html for CDSA specifications. Cheers :) |

[#10] EmmLabs cdp Hi AntFi, thanks reading my thread. Actually I haven't owned any EMM labs products up to this moment. So may be a real owner like you will be the appropiate person to start up the thread. But I can promise you to join in the discussion. The CDSA SE player belongs to my friend (2009 model) and I'll ask him to upgrade the firmware to note for the differences :) |

[#15] EmmLabs cdp should have a few selling in audiogon as americans are switching to playback designs or music servers. http://www.playbackdesigns.com/mps5.html |

[#16] EmmLabs cdp i just audited playback designs today at the dealer. i would say its tone is completely different from emm. emm is more musical and pleasing while playback is more hifi. |

[#17] EmmLabs cdp more hifi is good we are dealing with high fidelity. in other words u mean emm has more distortions, or distinctive house sound ? |

[#18] EmmLabs cdp whether it is good or not really depends on ur personal taste. i would say as a player, playback designs cdp really has its edge over many others. resolution is high, clear and stable. sound stage is also wide. the reason why i describe it hifi is because i feel the output a bit "恆" which i don't quite like. it is really of personal taste. on a comparison basis, emmlab output is reasonable good and more pleasing. |

[#19] EmmLabs cdp Hoesntly, both of them are very good like the real first class stuff in the market and Jonathan Tinn (the co-founder of Playback Designs) still told me Emm Labs products are very good lately. Yes, Emm Labs vs Playback Designs = differentiation like Ferrari 458 Italia vs Lamborghini LP 640 OR Maggie Q (few years ago) vs Jessica C I slightly agree what Audio Federation has found as followings for Playback Designs MPS-5 versus the EMMLabs CDSA SE as it's slight forwarded but it can be altered by DAC Sampling rate if doing w CAS : The PD had a slightly more colorful tone - which is not to say warm, tho it might be thought of that way - but more like the Kharma kind of exuberance - or that of analog. The Meitner is also known for its pureness of tone - and the PD was like that, only tipped up a little. I did not find it to be out of proportion to reality, necessarily, but it was a definite difference from way the CDSA was interpreting the CD. Another difference was that either the soft notes were made more prominent - or the midrange and highs were made more prominent - which I think resulted in several more sonic differences [according to my mental model of what is happening]: 1. The soundstage was more forward. This was neither more or less pleasant than the CDSA - it just WAS. 2. There was more ‘perceived’ resolution - a lot of the subtleties of the music were more evident [note that this differs from Dave’s interpretation - by I think I have an explanation for this further on] 3. There was a higher noise floor 4. Because lots of very soft sounds were now more in evidence there wasn’t a clear demarcation between images in the soundstage. 5. This lead to a feeling that there was a larger presence, more of a oneness or wholeness to the stage - perhaps even more ‘continuousness’ where notes flowed well into each other. 最後修改時間: 2010-02-10 16:35:55 |

[#20] EmmLabs cdp I remembered I have auditioned the Playback Designs about half year ago in the dealer's place. My impression then is that it is an improvement over EMMLabs. EMM Labs to me is very musical and smooth. You are attracted by the music and don't have time to look for image size or which instrument is overbright etc. But to me it has one weakness i.e the attacks are not powerful enough. This is related to the traditional Philips drive that Ed Meitner designed the whole player with. It is musical but the sound a little thick and not too transparent. We always hope to use a Esoteric Drive to combine with the EMM Labs DAC. And that is exactly what the Playback Designs did. When I auditioned the player yes it has more attack and more depth esprcially the depth behind the speakers, much more so than the EMM Labs. And I agree with cocacola Hing that it is a little more Hi Fi than EMM Labs. And I attributed it to be due to the dealers tendency to tune it to this sound. they use a similar setup when I went ther. Mark Levinson amp and Salon speakers and they put the Plyback design on some Reimyo gold suspension feet which gave it a metallic taste. I believe the Hifi tendency is due to the Reimyo feet. I have thought about replacing the EMM Labs with the Playback Designs but I didn't because the improvement to me is only in the range of 10-15% but the upgrade cost is great. But in these subsequent few months I have changed entirely because I found out that by using an external Antelope clock the EMM Labs actually can be advanced 40 to 50%. All the previous doubts about the thick sound and not enough attack are gone. One really has to listen to it before one can believe that a good external clock can improve the sound to such an extent. The EMM Labs will stay in my rack for a long long time. Just for your reference. Doesn't mean to discourage you to buy either EMM Labs or Playback. Both are excellent gears for music (but I would probably get a cheaper one and use the extra money to get a clock). |
