Not merely depend on price, but it should be one of the factor to consider.

My first impression is that it is a Ripping CD machine + Storage + Playback Software + Dac. I believe sound should be better, but not sure how much does it improve.

There is no "Best sounding" machine ;)

Weiss expertee is in DAC design. It is not hard to build an embedded linux with rt kernel etc in a dedicated circuit board. You just need some seeding money to get it started. Transporter is something very similar and so are many other major brands who are now offering their version of servers.

Agreed with macfans. If I spend US$15K on Weiss, I will go for Medea with Firewire. A Mac Book with Amarra are relatively cheap. That's why I said the price is not that reasonable.
