| [#1] luxman sq38u user dear ching, any problem with your luxman sq38u, My luxman have noise over phono and have repaired before warranty and the dealer said it was just a tube get wrong. Now it have blooming noise again during starting, but it already over the warranty period. hope that my speaker is burned . Hope that it is also the el 34 problem. I have loss confidence to the quality of luxman and quality of the russian tube. |

| [#4] luxman sq38u user I own a SQ38u for 10 months now and I have been very very happy with it. Sorry to hear about the issue you have. I went to 宝樹無線電行at 中環萬宜里 and bought 2 Mullard ECC82 and 1 Mullard ECC83 and replaced the stock tubes of the pre-amp section and it transformed the entire amp into something much better. I recalled ECC82 cost 750 each and 83 cost 650 each (or the other way around, I forgot). I don't think they carry Telefunken but Mullard sounds very musical to me. I know they also carry EL34. You can call them at 25253227 to check stock availability first. Also they only open on weekdays and close at 6pm , sharp |

| [#6] luxman sq38u user It is very frustrating, even within warranty, you need to packup the amp , contact dealer and arrange collection time and wait and pay. I don't know whether I should fix it by dealer or change tubes by myself. May be it is better to save some money to buy the tubes than pay the dealer. |

| [#8] luxman sq38u user az5448 Ching, It's quite heavy so if you are confident you can change the tubes yourself. Here's how I changed mine. 1) Put the amp upside down on the bed (you need somewhere soft and wouldn't create scratches) 2) Unscrew the bottom metal plate. BE CAREFUL with the MIDDLE screw. Unscrew the middle one first and don't lose the washer 3) You can carefully slide the amp out of the wooden box. Slide the FRONT towards yourself and "the body" should come out easily 4) Make the original tubes and log their locations as well in case you have to put them back. 5) Remember to identify WHICH tube is 82 and which is 83 .... they look the same! 6) There are some tubes with protection of metal sleeves that wraps around them. Use a screwdriver to unlock the metal sleeves. Turn them clockwise/or anti-clockwise (I forgot) then the sleeves will come out and you can replace the tubes 7) Replacement of tubes are straightforward. Just unplug the original and plug the new one back onto the slot (Again, you need to identify and log down which is which because 82 and 83 looks the same) 8) When you put the body back into the wooden box, screw the middle screw LAST and be careful with that because it's a long screw the need to be align with a hole. I am no expert on this but still I have been able to do it and it doesn't sound as complicated as it is so give it a try. And save money and time of shipping it around ... |

| [#14] luxman sq38u user dear ching, I sincerely thank for your support. I devote my first time to my luxman... I open it according to advice of ching desmondchan and everything goes smoothly. I originally plan to buy some cheap ecc83and 82 such as goldlion, but I find out that it was not expected cheap( about 400 per tube). So I suddenly made my decision to visit Chu Kee of 3rd floor, and buy 7 tubes of telefunken. Thank Mr Chu using a lot of time to teach me some knowledge. After putting the telefunken in my Luxman. It is a reborn of my humble luxman. Play the record of Beethoven no.9 and I can't imagine the telefunken can make such different!!! It is a painful experience but I am satisfied. My wallet suffered from massive bleeding but it is a real temptation to change all el34 tubes, but unfortunately i got no money leaved. I will try to see what happen to use my lux 38u as preamp to push my luxman MB3045. |
