[#2] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club How to calculate the optimum length of the FM antenna? Divide the speed of light (3 x 108 m/s) by the frequency of the wave in Hertz. Since the FM radio frequency for HK ranges from 88 MHz to 108MHz, the theoretically ideal length would be from 2.78 to 3.41 metre in order to receive the full wavelength of the FM signals. When it may not be practical to build a full wavelength antenna, we could go for 1/2(half wave) or 1/4 (quarter wave)of it. The length of ST-2 is 154.2 cm which is about the half wavelength of 98MHz, the middle of 88-108MHz. Length does matter for FM antenna. Whatelse? Let's discuss later... 最後修改時間: 2012-12-27 19:11:03 |

[#9] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Hi 黃思璁 c-hing, I live in Clearwater bay. I am very headacde, how to receive FM with good condition. Actually, the FM signal is so weak in Clearwater bay. Any good solution ? Many thanks !! |

[#10] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club SamWKF Hing What tuner and antenna are you using? How did you placed your antenna? What kind of building (low-rise or high-rise)? What is the "relatively" best RTHK station now? |

[#11] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club Thanks 黃思璁 c-hing, I use Technics tuner, buy from Re33 second hand forum. I live at 3/F, this is a village house, little view to the Clearwater bay beach. The existing antenna has only TV signal, no FM output from the wall socket. But I don't care since I listen radio is at my room. I tried so many methods such as install an indoor TV/FM amp, no use, signal is still weak. Right now, I use a 75 ohm antenna, throw out to the window, then, at least receive one level (meter has five levels for receiving sigmal's quality), some time has stereo, but always has no. The best stations I can receive are : RTHK #1 and 2, some time has stereo. For Comm #1 (88.1), weak, with sha..sha... sound. Some c-hings recommend me to try ST-2 or Fanfare, but which one is better ?? ![]() |

[#12] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club SamWKF "an indoor TV/FM amp, no use, signal is still weak" without a proper FM antenna, any further amplification is of no use. Since you live on 3rd floor, you should place an FM antenna on the roof, high enough to avoid any blockage of neighbouring buildings. There are three major types you could find on the market: Yagi, dipole and omni(e.g. ST-2). For your case: You are recommended to find an FM Yagi, say, in SSP district. Advantage: max gain possible when pointing at the near FM station transmitter. Especially good for roof-top application where you can swing its direction in almost 360 degree. Disadvantage: relatively huge size. Due to it's directionality, not effective if the best direction has already been completely blocked or the (antenna) swing angle couldn't be adjusted at all. Not all stations come from the same direction. One yagi may not be enough to cover the range of 88-108MHz. Caution: Find a qualified technican to install. Outdoor application of antenna is subject to electrical shocks by lightning, and could be lethal. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-03 18:20:15 |

[#14] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club 黃思璁 c-hing, Can you give me a list for HK available stations, such as 88.1 = com #1, 92.6 = RTHK #1, I loss the table. Many thanks !! |

[#15] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club I seldom use Wikipedia as a reference in my work. But this link seems to be useful for amateur use and quick reference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_radio_stations_in_Hong_Kong FYI, my tuner can receive RTHK 4's maximum signal strength in 97.6, 98.4, 98.5, 98.7, 98.9MHz respectively with minor interferences. Some FM stations from the Mainland, not shown on the list, are quite nice for listening at times, too. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-03 22:13:04 |

[#17] Magnum Dynalab FM Tuner Fans Club If the signal is weak, a compromising way is to use digital tuners (I am not talking about DAB but those with digial display self searching type from the 80s). They can sound flatter and as good but can pick up signal better. Happy listening. 最後修改時間: 2013-03-04 13:44:13 |
