[#26328] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi All, this is the best way to reduse the sound Hum and noise? What is the effective? good or bad? Triode EF86 on Leak TL12+ to remove R6 and C3 but have to connect the screen grid to the anode, hence pin 1 to 6. When you do this you reduce the open loop gain by about four times. The EF86 usually then sounds like a decent triode. If then you adjust the feedback loop to compensate then the overall effect is to optimise the amplifier for the required input levels and also to reduce noise. |

[#26330] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Icefox, Your pic does not show too bad signs. There are original carbon resistors that may deserve your concern more than the new ones. The 5 yellow capacitors are likely the coupling ones and they are not the designed type, i.e. TCC paper-in-oil. I guess you may wish to change them with good quality PIO ones. Since you have 2 units of the monobloc, you should compare between them, in various comparable points: Power off: 1) Use a digital multi-meter to measure the components particularly the old resistors. Are they drifted in value? Most of the times you need to desolder at least one leg, before accurate measurements. 2) When you change components, change them in both Units, using components as close in type/nature and value as possible in both Units. Power on: 1) Following the schematics, compare the voltage of various comparable points, B1 (after rectifier), B2 (after smoothing cap), B3 (KT61 plate), B4 (driver tube plate voltage).. etc, and measure the cathode voltage of all these tubes. 2) Repeat the measurements and comparision between Unit 1 and Unit 2 when the amps are working for a while, say 30 mins. Repeat the power on/off procedures, eventually you get your pair of monoblocs as best matched nicely working as possible. Be carefull and calm in handling high voltage! ^^ 最後修改時間: 2012-03-31 11:58:02 |

[#26333] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Icefox, Those are electrolytic capacitors housed inside a can. C12, C13, C14, C15 indicates the separate capacitors, with a common negative, i.e. the 2 centre leadouts with black wire. You have to desolder all the +ve wires and make sure they have been fully discharged before you measure them, or you may get a electrical shock. Usually leave them there without power on overnight will get them fully discharged. Use a DC meter to test any voltage before touching the +ve. BTW, do you hear any hum? Usually your amp hums if any of these smoothing caps failed. 最後修改時間: 2012-04-02 00:44:45 |

[#26334] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user rcwy, I am leaving those capacitors for now, I am borrowing myself a LCR meter. Now I focus myself on those resistors. I found some useful info below, from another forum where a guy shared his experience in restoring a TL10. In the info below, I have a good idea on what is the "design intended" values of those cap and resistors. Now my questions is, 1. Upon measurement of my "original" resistors, what kind of drifting is considered "acceptable"? For example, for a 12K ohm resistor, it reads now 11K from the DMM, should I keep that or replace it with a NEW "non-original" components, say RMG resistors? 2. As a generalized question, what resistors/capacitors are CRITICAL for the sonic integrity and should be kept with OLD components while what are best to be replaced with modern components? ----- R1 12k ohm C1 mica 0.002uF. R3 470K R4 100K C2 0.1uF R7 100R and C3 0.001uF R2 1M R5 100K R6 22k R23 22K C16 0.001uF C4 30uF [yellow can on mine /100uF used in restored amp] C5 1.5MC5 0.1uF [moved on mine so just need to move back] horizontal R8 1.5 M then R9 10K then horizontal R10 1.5M C6 0.1uF [small yellow one in restored amp] R11 68K* R12 57K* [56K fitted in restored amp] * advised that these are top quality salmon pink band in my amp and I should not have to change these. C7 0.1uF [white in restored amp] C8 50 uf [100uF elec 40V on restored amp] C17 50uf [100uF elec 40V on restored amp] R14 220R [270R 4W green in restored amp] R24 200R [same as R14] C11 0.1uF [grey in restored amp] R15 1M // C9 0.001uF mica R16 1M // C10 0.001uF mica R13 10K fuse holder ------ |

[#26335] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Icefox, I can't affort the time to read every of your readings. You can assume all the resistors are important for them to be within 5-10% deviation between Unit 1 and Unit 2. Those used in the NFB and phase-splitting are particularly important. They should better be +/-5%. Call me to chat tomorrow if required. 最後修改時間: 2012-04-02 01:12:43 |

[#26336] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user HI MR Rcwy, I from Malaysia, This is my 12 plus. I fully complete the restoration, now amp in good condition, but still having a bit noise, I know that leak input is more sensitive and maybe my active amp issue. Can i replace the and R2 resister to value 23K above to reduce the noise? R1 resistor can replace to 1.5M value? ,any other solution can provide? Pls advice. thanks ![]() |

[#26337] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Heu, The effective means is by adding a pair of input resistors (100K + 47K) to the octal plug, to reduce the amp's sensitity. Schematically, they are wired: (signal +ve)---100K---(12Plus input +ve)---47K---Ground---(signal -ve) ![]() 最後修改時間: 2012-04-03 23:44:40 |

[#26339] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Heu, gingers (John) shared the picture on page 873. You just need to read through some old posts on page 873 then you will know. Or you might have overlooked. Alternately, you may also check with Terry. I passed him a pair of octal plugs with shunt resistors inside but he prefers using the plugs without the resistors. You may just take the abandom resistors from him if he still keeps them. By the way, you should be able to know who rwcy is by reading the previous post. Just pay a little bit attention. P/s: hope you can also guess who I'm. |
