Hi,all brothers

I am now paring a 12.1 with a FM Acoustics FM 240 preamp and a 3/5A.....however found that the gain in 12.1 is very high.
I got a Fisher 50C as well but the gain problem still exist.. I can just turn the volume to about eighto' clock for listening to music.

what preamp do your guys used for 12.1? someone suggested gainless pre but i am not very into the sound of gainless preamp.

Any recommendations? thanks a lot.

12.1 has a very high sensitivity. 125mv will give u full output. so the best thing to do is to low the sensitivity. if you are handy with diy, just add a voltage divider to the input.

yes. most power amp has a full output with say 1.5v to 2v input. but 12.1 has 1/10 of that. i am sure there are many people here don't mind to do that for u for a minimum cost. i don't have a workshop in hk anymore otherwise i can do that for you for a bottle of Grolsch.

If my memory serves me, LEAK TL12.1 gives full its output power at 0.25V of input! That means it is extremely sensitive.

And it means MOST pre-amps with 1V or above driving will overdrive TL12.1 even at very minimal volume level, e.g. volume knob at 7:00 to 8:00, or before 9:00 o'clock.

Vintage preamps are particularly disadvantageous driving TL12.1, because any inprecision in their volume attentuators will be augmented by such a narrow range for the power amp's full output.

A voltage divider is a practical way as NSG reiterated. I bet Hugoleehk has not gone through the previous pages here. Solutions have well been mentioned.

Hi, may I know your real concern? If there is none, you may just sit back and enjoy the music. I am also using 50c, Leak amps driving LS3/5A. Personally, I find that 50C matches very well with Leak amps. The shunt resistors method is popular and commonly used but direct feed in might be your preference. Like yours, the volume level is set around 8 o'clock for sufficient sound level.

But FM Accoustics preamp is solid state I guess; matching it with vintage tube power amp as TL12.1 is another challenging matter.

從 Leak ST20 中偷師的最簡單保護 "裝置"... 不正常升溫令電阻腳太熱溶降了焊錫自動跌出, 保護了一支 KT66! :)

起因...

Jensen/Angela PIO 交連電容漏電, 引起過高屏流通過 KT66. 但這是灰黑色玻璃的 Kt66, 它的屏發紅也看不到! 100V 耐壓的電解質陰極旁路電容也承受不起 (在很短時間之內電流是正常電流 3倍或以上!)... KT66 的屏極當然會更紅, 霎時之間陰極電阻(仍然新淨, 無被燒黑)的焊接開了路... KT66 獲救!
