[#103] Linn LP12 Fans Rover901, With its bottom removed, the LP12 sounds excellent on light weight stand such as 2-tier target or sound organization. I guess the trampolin is badly needed if on heavier rack. |

[#105] Linn LP12 Fans rover901, I think the old type trampolin sells for >$2K. A new type trampolin rolled out earlier this year, probably selling for $3K. You could find one in the used market for $1K. |

[#106] Linn LP12 Fans About plinth, I don't think you can change the plinth alone. The standard LP12 comes with the cover, arm board, circus bearing and motor sells for around $27K. All finishes same price. The lingo, new keel chassis, trampolin board. tonearm and cartridge are all extra. Give a call to Mr Lui, the Precision Audio manager for a quote. |

[#107] Linn LP12 Fans Dennis, I am open to be corrected but I do get a reply from Linn not long ago that separate plinth is available for order. They ask me to contact their local agent for a quote. It could be the agent will do the change for you at a charge. |

[#108] Linn LP12 Fans More detail re my communication with Linn. I said to them that my plinth was damaged and asked if a rosewood replacement is available. They replied that they don't have rosewood anymore and suggested the rosenut which is similar to rosewood. They said I can get in touch with their agent for a quote. |

[#109] Linn LP12 Fans dear tk, how much did HK Linn charge for the plinth chnage? I understand thatthe price of a trampolin in UK is 140 pounds, and plinth at around 230 pounds, I wonder if HK Linn will charge too much |

[#110] Linn LP12 Fans TK, It depends how you define what the plinth is. I understand the wooden plinth alone is not available on the price list. The plinth they called may likely include chassis, bearing, motor and armboard. Rover910, The wooden plinth you saw on eBay (I suppose) occasionally is never mentioned as Linn original nor OEM. It is sold from individual seller other than Linn. Otherwise, I suspect the real wood plinth alone will cost more than GBP600 if original from Linn. |

[#111] Linn LP12 Fans Any RW33 friends will visit the 2007 HK HIGH-END AUDIO VISUAL SHOW ( the one at Conventional Center ) I heard the news from the distributor that the Linn staff will come to the show this year and he is the staff who worked for Linn more than 20 years and is an expert on setting up LP12. I will go to visit their room and share his experience. Of course listen the new LP12 set up. |

[#112] Linn LP12 Fans Toooochi, yes I'll be going to the show. Hope to hear what the "official" LP12 should sound like :-). Dennis, Thanks for your enlightening. May be I can find out the truth from one of the UK dealers. |

[#113] Linn LP12 Fans dear dennis, the one on ebay is 135 pounds, DIY, self made, looks nice. but not linn original. the one I mentioned(230 pounds) is original linn parts from UK Linn authorised dealer, suggested by UK Linn LP12 user in the pink fish media audio forum(someone claimed to have his plinth changed at this price). HK dealer charge HK LP12 user for GBP600??? Maybe I just order one from UK directly. Maybe you think I am crazy, even it is made by Linn, but I still don't think a simple wooden plinth worth more than 300UKP,:P |

[#114] Linn LP12 Fans Dear Rover901, I did not get the plinth alone on the price list so I only suspect it would cost over GBP600 if available by arithmatic: $27000 - circus bearing - motor - arm board - the 12" cast platter - cover etc. The GBP600 is a wild guess, so please don't it seriously. I still wonder Linn would supply the plinth as spare because it would take quite a big effort to put the plinth and stainless steel plate in place together if outside their factory in EKOS (Scotland in French, as they name their tonearm). To ensure you are buying genuine Linn product, I suggest you ask for their Linn packing and serial number, otherwise, you would be buying non-QC product or simply DIY again. I understand all genuine Linn spares have proper Linn packing with serial number. Be careful |

[#115] Linn LP12 Fans Just for discussion. I used to write to UK Linn Hotline for records or spare, they would simply turn down your request and refer your request to your local dealer. You can find their Hotline under Linn web-site. Why not calling Precision Audio in Central for more detail? If GBP230 is really the price and Linn really willing to offer plinth alone as spare, I guess Precision would charge similarly. I didn't find it on the usual price list but it does not mean Precision Audio wouldn't try it for LP12 user as special service. |

[#116] Linn LP12 Fans Dear Rover901, I haven't asked the HK agent for the price of the plinth alone so what Dennis quoted was probably a wild guess. Anyway, I can get more information from a UK dealer who may be willing to find out. What I understand is that some of the dealers did get the plinth to replace the damaged one for their customers. However, in that case, the original serial number of the TT will no more be valid. The previous LP 12 I got has the rosewood plinth and it is a replacement. The seller did show me the original Linn packing box for the plinth. Dennis is right in pointing out that replacement of the plinth may need some dedicated "craftmanship" and the work is recommended to be done by a Linn dealer. From my observation, however, the work is less complicated than servicing the tonearm or set up of the balance of the TT. It is a possible DIY job but most probably not approved by Dennis, ha ha. There is an ebay UK seller who makes his own plinth to fit the LP12 as well as a few Thoren models but I don't recommend it although it may be cheaper. |

[#117] Linn LP12 Fans One of my friends, who had worked for Radford Hi-Fi (official Linn dealer but now defunct) at Bristol in England many years ago, bought the plinth from eBay last year. He got the plinth changed (new suspension and new motor) by his previous workmate, a Linn trained engineer for thirty years, who also set up the turntable for him. I have borrowed and listened to it for 2 weeks so I have actually had a close encounter of the plinth. The appearance and the built of the plinth were fantastic but I am not sure if it sounded better or worse than the original when I compared it with mind as the cartridges, arms and power supplies were all different from my turntables as well. But it certainly looked far superior as it was sitting side by side with mine. I think it is very good value and can be considered as an alternative for someone who is looking for a replacement plinth. It may not be original and sound different but who cares. I just love its look. |

[#118] Linn LP12 Fans When I changed the Linn's AC motor to Origin Live DC motor, I had to dismantle the whole turntable and reassemble it. I did not find any difficulties at all. The most time consuming part was the re- tuning of its suspension. So changing a new plinth, I think, does not appear to be a daunting challenge to anyone with DIY experience and common sense. |

[#119] Linn LP12 Fans Dear kcc The most difficult part is mounting the stainless steel plate to the wooden plinth requiring some special tool in Linn factory I suppose. I once saw their technicians using a two feet long big screw driver rod to tighten the screws. Just my opinion. The DC motor will change and alter the nature of original Linn sound. Some like it in DC manner and some would probably not. The choice of AC or DC motor mostly go back to the designer's fundamental concept. Changing to DC motor would most probably changing the tonal balance of Sondek. So anyone who wishes to try DC motor please take note of this concern Alternatively, for those who are looking for more from Sondek, may I suggest to look for Naim's power supply (providing it is still in production) or simply go for the Lingo. May I also suggest that, whichever way you do, please put the circus bearing on as the first priority. Do enjoy the LP12 quality. It is a legend . |

[#120] Linn LP12 Fans Dear kcc, I am curious about the result of the comparison between original AC and DC like Origin Live. changing plinth is definitely not a problem to any experienced LP12 lover like dennis hing or anyone in this post(maybe except me), I wouldn't mind to let HK dealer to chnage it for me if the cost is included in the price of the plinth :P |

[#121] Linn LP12 Fans kcc123, do you mean your friend bought the OEM plinth, not the original from Linn? Actually that ebay guy who makes his own plinth for sale said he can make the plinth to the exact Linn dimension by order but those he puts on sale in ebay are of a slightly larger size. |
