[#120] Linn LP12 Fans Dear kcc, I am curious about the result of the comparison between original AC and DC like Origin Live. changing plinth is definitely not a problem to any experienced LP12 lover like dennis hing or anyone in this post(maybe except me), I wouldn't mind to let HK dealer to chnage it for me if the cost is included in the price of the plinth :P |

[#121] Linn LP12 Fans kcc123, do you mean your friend bought the OEM plinth, not the original from Linn? Actually that ebay guy who makes his own plinth for sale said he can make the plinth to the exact Linn dimension by order but those he puts on sale in ebay are of a slightly larger size. |

[#122] Linn LP12 Fans Hi tkchan, Yes, I was talking about the OEM plinth offering from eBay. It is slightly bigger but more substantial built than the original Linn plinth and as a result it is also quite a bit heavier. The bottom cover is made of wood, instead of fibre board, where there are adjustable feet to level the turntable. There are different wood finishes to choose from and my friend has chosen the cherry similar to the one that pete 7013 has. |

[#123] Linn LP12 Fans Hi rover901, At the beginning, I was suspicious that a power supply would do much to the performance of a turntable if the speed of it was already stable, but not until I listened to the Lingo and soon later the Origin Live DC motor with Advanced switch box on an early version of the Linn. I was startled by the improved sonic performance, offered by the DC motor, which surpassed both the Valhalla and Lingo LP12 used for comparison. The first thing I noticed was its clarity and substantial bass. It was deep, tuneful, and powerful that could kick ass. Its top end was smooth and airy, but the best was its mid range, so open, seductive and expressive, which I had always dreamt for. The Valhalla in comparison sounded metallic in the treble, clinical in the mid and weak and ill defined in the bass. The Lingo fared better in all areas than the Valhalla but still left behind in the bass department. It did not have the bass weight of is competitor and slightly less deep. The mid range of the Lingo was also not as smooth and sweet as the Origin Live but it is more organic, I think. The treble again did not have the extra refined articulation of the Origin Live. The Lingo I got for comparisons was not the latest version so my view and perspective might have been different if I had used the latest one. The cartridges I used in the comparisons comprising of an Audio Technica AT OC9, an AT 33 PTG and a Dynavector 17D mk2. |

[#124] Linn LP12 Fans Dear KCC123, In fact I am quite interested in the ebay DIY plinth, which looks nice and priced very reasonable. Is the built quality as good as/better than the original plinth? is there any difference, frankly, between Linn plinth and Ebay plinth? Your comment on Valhalla/lingo and OL ps similar to all comments on the internet/overseas forum....so what ps are you using at the moment? The OL advance? |

[#125] Linn LP12 Fans I think the eBay plinth is better built than the Linn plinth and please see my reply to tkchan. By the way, you might have seen my comments on Audio Asylum about the Origin Live DC motor which I have used a differnt user name. |

[#126] Linn LP12 Fans It is actually a modified Advanced. I had borrowed an Ultra speed box from a friend for some time, so I could have inspected and made comparisons with the Advanced prior I made some modifications to it. The differences between them were mainly the use of different grades of capacitors, regulator and diodes in the power supply. I swapped those inferior components with even better ones than the Ultra, and the end result is that the performance of the modified Advanced unit is now superior to the stock Ultra. |

[#127] Linn LP12 Fans I am very interested in the modification, in fact I am using a Ultra with upgraded transformer. What kind of improvement does the mod brings? I think I will probably get a ebay plinth....... |

[#128] Linn LP12 Fans I went to the show with TK. Quite good feeling. Not much good sofware bought. I'd spent the early afternoon in Linn's room hearing the keeled LP12 and EKOS SE. Another single piece of keel in silent display asking for $31,000 and another $49,000 for the new EKOS SE. :( The sound of newest flagship neither impress me too much nor TK and I think TK is going to say a few words. The newest flagshop LP12 with Linto phono will now cost over $170,000????? I guess I have to end my upgrade path with Linn. |

[#129] Linn LP12 Fans Yes, neither Dennis nor I was impressed with the new upgrade of the LP 12. I have ettered a few words in 黑膠樂園。These are however my personal opinions only. |

[#130] Linn LP12 Fans kcc123, wow, what you described is already sweet to the ears. Regarding the quality of the OEM plinth as I saw from the photos in ebay, I am not so sure to say that they are as good as the original Linn. The new version Linn plinth are excellently made and I understand that they use special glue to bond the parts together. The new Linn plinth also incorporates a minor upgrade where a short length of screw thread is locked at the position next to the motor for purpose of further reducing resonance of the chassis. |

[#131] Linn LP12 Fans Hi rover901, The modifications I have made to the Advanced speed box includes an encapsulated Nuvoten-Talema 120VA 2x12V (223-8702) toroidal transformer from RS which is housed in an ABS enclosure (also from RS), an Audiocom Q-Power regulator, ultrafast recovery diodes and Black Gate NX type capacitors. The improvements are vast, compared with the stock Advanced and Ultra (Origin Live Standard and Upgrade transformers), with better resolutions in the bass and extra clarity & transparency in the mid and top end. Further more, stereo images are more precise and stable. |

[#132] Linn LP12 Fans Dear TK, have you ask HK dealer how much they are asking for a new cherry plinth in the HIFI show? I am not surprise to hear your comment on the keel. I think I will enjoy my OL LP12 instead of thinking about upgrading to keeled LP12....anyway they are just going the same direction, and mine is cheaper...haha kcc123, you built a transformer for your advance controller? that sounds a good idea, my upgraded transformer, though expensive, still looks cheap, especially the thin wire used between transformer and motor(the whole thing looks like something you can get at HK$100 in SSP) And the components you used sounds very hi quality(I know nothing about electronics, though) are these upgrade parts expensive? |

[#133] Linn LP12 Fans Regulators are too expensive at 89.95 and the Super-Regulators are 39.95 each which I only paid less than 20 at eBay last year. The Q-Power regulator I also bought at roughly the same time also cost about 20. Here is the picture of the Q-Power regulator:- |

[#135] Linn LP12 Fans rover901, I didn't ask the HK agent regarding the plinth but I have emailed a friend in the UK to get the info for me. I have asked for the price of either the cherry or rosenut plinth. |

[#137] Linn LP12 Fans Yes, it seems that all the 2nd hand LP12 stock had been drained dry since early this year. In latter part of last year, there was an abundant supply of LP12 TT, Ittok and Ekos arms and all sorts of accessories readily available. Let's see if the situation would improve after the summer holiday. I guess quite a few LP12's were drown in the recent flooding at south England. |
