A strange story that Lingo 4 has no 45rpm. Isn't it sure that it is a full new Lingo? Lingo 4 is still using AC motor, one press turns it on at 33.3 (red LED), another press gets it up to 45rpm (green LED), hold it to get it to stop. And there are two brightness levels: bright red means the Lingo is reading the sensor, trying to get it to exactly 33.3rpm; dim red means you're locked in. Same with green: bright and it's still finding the right speed, dim and it's locked.

I got it brand new from HK Authorized dealer.

Seems that I have to install the black stripe supplied with the box but I dunno where and how to attach it to the machine.

Thanks

I finally figured out the problem by sticking the supplied strip to the inner side of the outer platter for Lingo 4 to detect the rotation.

So bad Linn doesn’t supply any manual / guide to the end user to protect the benefit of the authorised dealers

Wow! Its been 17+ years since the first post I put up in 2007. Hope all LPs folks are all well & happy LP12 spinning.

See if you can humbly share your latest LPs juicy system setup :-)

I trust we always believe our own setup is the BEST sound performance than others, don’t we ;-)

I am so happy to see this thread is being active again.

I used to be a LP12 user and owned about 10 LP12 on and off in the last 20 years.

However, I sold all my Hi-Fi gears, including my last three LP12, when I was diagnosed I had irrecoverable hearing loss. I am completely deaf on my right ear and wearing hearing on my left ear.

It was done out of frustration and soon enough I went back to Hi-i journey due to "itchy fingers".

I didn't go back to LP12 since they were getting more and much expensive. I went for Lenco GL75, am idler drive transcription turntable.

since I like DIYing and GL75 would provide lots of opportunity and fun to modify.

Now I have changed again and not using Lenco any more.

Instead I am going back to 3-point suspensions deck again, but not LP12 as even more outrageous prices these days!!

I am using Ariston RD11s and RD 80s!!

I am sure all experienced LP12 users will know the story between Linn, Ariston and CJ Walker. The debate to whom has the right of the design and manufacturing has long been widely discussed on the net.

Mind you, all these makers, including Thorens, are all based on the original design by Acoustic Research AR Turntable. I will settle with this.

As for now, I am just enjoying my two Ariston's

My last post here was in 2017 and Iike the saying "人生何處不相逢".

"人生何處不相逢"

---------------------------

Indeed. I acquired one of a good friend's LP12 sent from the UK 10 years ago. But couple years ago I settled down in the UK but could not bring the Linn LP12. Instead I sold it to a good friend in HK.

In the UK lately I bought a 2nd hand Systemdek "2-speed transcription" that uses 3 point suspension as Linn LP12 does. Now I really have to learn the mechanics behind such design. It comes with a ADC Alt-1 lightly-weight tonearm and Ortofon MM head. Without any hurdle, the setup immediately give out beautiful sound.

Has anyone had experience with using ADC Alt-1 tonearm?

I have a Denon 103R MC head and its matching Denon step-up transfromer. Can ADC Alt-1 accommodate this MC head?

@uat506

Thanks for the kind words and sharing of your experience is much appreciated.

Perhaps people at R33 know that I am everywhere here with many threads. Guess life in the UK is too simple and quiet.

Life goes on and music will stay with me for a long time...........

Richard,

I have used the Systemdek and the ADC LFM-2 (upgrade version of ALT-1).

The materials on the Systemdek's plinth is something I didn't like. It feels like glue of sticky stuff. That said it was a perfect match with my Hadcock GH-228 Export which I used at eh time. It was so musical.

However, the ADC is built from the late 70's to 80's and is mainly for the popular low mass MM cartridges most people used.

Your Denon DL-103R is a Medium/High Mass MC and I am afraid it may not be a prefect match. However, if you have them why not installing them to try out.

I used the ADC LFM-2 with a heavy Toshiba Direct Drive. Funny enough this deck is heavy but it will only sing with low mass arm, like ADC, Hadcock, Mission 774 and Infinity Black Widow.

I bought the ADC specially for the Toshiba. I had good result with a very light weight Benz Micro MC Gold.

If you have more time and thougt you could try it too since it's a very cheap but good sund cart.

Thanks, Chi.

I just searched the Vinyl Engine and the sharings about this light-wright tonearm ADC Alt-1 vis-a-vis the heavy-mass MC head Denon DL103R. It seems all point to the fact they are mutually exclusive. What a joke I was making.

I just skip this idea. Let the 103R continue to be housed by a Technics tt. :)

Richard,

Not a joke at all.

There is always something to learn only if we ask.

Many bright ideas in history were all starting from silly thoughts.

Though I use CD and Digital Files with a cheap Schitt DAC I am still very much a vinyl records enthusiasm so it's time to use two turntables again.

So I have two Ariston turntable, one RD11s and the other one RD80SL.

RD11s will be using the Fiedelity Research FR-54 heavy arm with Denon DL-102 Mono cartridge. The RD80SL will be using the SAEC 407/23 and the Ortofon 2M Blue.

I used to own many Linn LP12 and still have many parts. I had upgraded the springs on Ariston to the Linn ones which are much stiffer. It still needs more adjustment with the springs to get the right sound.

More music with my second Ariston turntable, especially females vocals as I was tidying up the female vocal collections.

I haven't heard some for some times now, so more to come soon.

With the SAEC 407/23 arm I thought the sound was a little "tight" and it has to be "loosen" a little bit to allow more "Air" in the music.

I normally put a acrylic plate(or a flat record) on top of the platter but this time I just use the felt, just like the LP12.

I also un-turn the nuts on the springs by 3 half turns and I think it sounds much better(may be just mentally!!!)

May need more tweaks but settling for now.

"un-turn the nuts on the springs by 3 half turns", as mentioned.

Do you mean you "un-turn the nuts on the springs by 3 half turns" so as to decrease the tightness of the three springs to a certain extent?
