I had a chance listen LP12 with a goldmund mat, it does a good focus and tighen the bass and bigger sounds stage, quite impressive. |

| [#72] Linn LP12 Fans Thanks kcc123 for the links. It seems that the SDS Isoplatmat is pretty heavy for its metal construction. I have reservation using it with the LP12 because of the weight levied on the 3 suspension springs. Anyway, it could be my worry only. The mat I am using is an odd piece of foam plastic dating back to 15 years age. I really can't remember what its make was nor the product name but it works better than the original Linn mat in better reproduction of both extensions as well as more lively response. I am open minded regarding the use of mats because I am not biased to Linn gospel and eager to try what is best for my listening taste. |

You would likely damage your circus bearing tip by adding weight as seriously warned by Linn's engineers and alternate the accurate Linn's sound using other MAT. Unless you are looking for fun, the accurate LP12 sound cannot be achieved by mix and match. If you are available, please give me a call about servicing your LP12. Don't fool by its cheap look, your LP12 is a finest piece of engineering. The system must be suffering problem or improper setup if needing gadget and extra accessory. |

| [#79] Linn LP12 Fans Dear Taimonsing, I am sorry you are reading the figures correctly. Start buying one component one after one like me. The new one sounds much better and more accurate than the aged ones in my opinion. Otherwise, you may most probably end up buying a lemon in the confused LP12's second hand market. If you still preferred to second hand, get one with serial number higher than 91000 (year 1992 or after) for reason of its fitted circus bearing as standard. Add a no-play Ittok arm plus a low mileage Linn MC will fit the bill well. It would be the best if you could get somebody who is experinced to check the bearing tip (the most failing part I envisaged in the used market) and test the arm bearing for you. Please allow me to remind replacing its bearing oil, suspension springs and drive belt before your set up. Buy or borrow a Linn template for proper cartridge alignment. Have fun. A properly working and set up LP12 won't let you down. |
