[#1] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club Clearaudio Concept is my first TT. My setup is Source : Clearaudio Concept Speaker: Tannoy Sterling Amplifier: Melody HS34 In overall, the experience is very pleasure. The sound of the Concept is denser in mid-range, richer in bass and very musical but not slow at all comparing with my Audio Notes Zero CDT+DA combo. Hope there are more Concept users to share their experience and idea to make this lovely TT to sound even better. Thanks. |

[#5] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club Any Concept user here to share your experience? Some user said it sounds better with 2.4mg setting. Has any user tried it? |

[#6] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club brayden: Although I have several TTs, I could not resist buying a Concept. To my eyes, the CONCEPT is the best-looking TT in the Clearaudio line! The best thing about the sound is the rhythm and pace, usually a weak point of this company. The factory setting may not be accurate. Check with a stylus force gauge (I use the reasonably priced Shure). The MM cartridge is fine, buit I have already changed to an Ortofon Kontrapunkt At $8xxx, with the Schroeder-clone magnetic arm it is a no brainer, better value than a Rega TT. Surprisingly, the rhythm and pace beats Rega at its own game. ![]() |

[#7] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club Hi doctorjohn, Thanks for your sharing. Since I am a new hand on TT, I need to learn how to use the stylus force gauge and of course the first step is to buy one first. Would you suggest 2.4mg is the right setting? Or, Is it rather a trial and audition process? I find the Concept sounds richer in bass and denser in vocal part but the high is a bit shame comparing with my Audio Note CD player (Zero). In overall, the sound is more pleasure when the middle and low range become denser and richer. The sound stage is also wider than before. I agree with you that Concept is an agile TT For the upgrade, I am considering in priority 1. Replacing the existing the original power supply of the Cambridge Audio to a better one 2. MM to MC 3. Replacing the phone stage to E.A.R. 4. Signal cable. Glad to know more comment from you and other Concept users. Thanks (P.S. I will post my setup tonight for sharing) |

[#8] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club It's gratifying to know that in this age of overly expensive gears and inflated praise, a high-end company is making a stunningly elegant piece of equipment for such a low price (very low in HK, thanks to HiFi Duck). It's precisely aimed at "newbie" like you, and it's even more gratifying to know you really enjoy it. The stock cartridge is actually very good for an MM, clean, fast, open. I changed almost immediately to the Kontrapunkt not because I was dis-satisfied with it, but because I just bought the Ortofons and this arm has the most convenient VTA adjustment to accomodate the tall bodies of the Kontrapunkts. Installing the Knotrapunkts on the Rega arms that are on my other TTs would be a royal pain. As I changed so quickly, I have no experience with the stock cartridge. The Kontrapunkt is much fussier and I am still tinkering with it. It's definitely worthwhile to play with different tracking weights as well as small adjustments of VTA perhaps. The Shure stylus force gauge may not be the most precise but it's good enough for me. They are easily available at just over $200. Try Mongkok Audio and bargain a little: http://www.tnt-audio.com/accessories/shuresfg2_e.html The Shure is all the gauge you need for an MM cartridge. For MC, some say the magnetic property of the metal beam interferes with the MC motor. I am not so sure, as I (and many others on the internet) have used it for years with MCs without any problem: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/77865.aspx Digital gauge also has its problems as well as magnetic parts. Don't know the rest of your system. What Cambridge Audio is it? I'd not "upgrade" until the TT and cartridge is run-in. How long have you have it? ![]() |

[#9] Clearaudio Concept TT Fans Club Hi Doctorjohn, Thanks for your sharing again. I will buy the Shure stylus force gauge and start my TT tuning 101 practice. In fact, I have not idea how it works and how to use it. I think it is part of the fun. My Concept has only round 30 hours service time. What long does it take for the TT and cartridge to really run-in? Will it be a good improvement? I am using Cambridge Audio P640 Phone Stage. Some user suggest to change the original power to a DIY power supply with the ring transformer for improvement. I may have a try when the system run-in. Btw, I will post my setup tonight. |
