Can excellent CDP plays excellent music? Yes, the readbook type CD can actually sound very good if recording and all the rest of the things are taken good care of.

Do they tend to be expensive? Yes

Are some excellent CDPs even overpriced? Yes, but not all

Are most music sold at CD format? Yes

BUT ...

Do CAS or similar playback systems produce better sound than CDP? Yes, theoretically. And yes, practically as shown in many reviews.

Are excellent CASs or similar systems costly? Oh, yes, especially those made by high-end companies but still tends to be less expensive than excellent CDPs for the same level of performance.

But also no - since CASs can be skillfully arranged by the user at a great fraction of the costs of high-end ones.

Does one have to use expensive DACs? Yes and No. Yes if you want uncompromising, superb performance but no since many averagely-priced DACs can sound good enough for many people. Anyhow, this also applies to the use of CDPs! The costs of DAC is the same for CDP and CASs (and their likes).

Are good storage medium for CASs too expensive? Solid-State Drive should be the way to go in the end. It may be a bit expensive in comparsion to other forms of storage, but in the 'medium' run (not long run), SSD prices will fall drastically.

Will music companies issue downloadable music at excellent quality and okay prices? Some are already doing it, especially the niche markets. How the majors can tackle the issue of privacy remains to be seen. It's very difficult to predict IMO.

Are CASs more complicated than CDPs for most people, at least at the present stage? Oh, yes! Most music of majors is not easily downloadable, which deter people buying ready-made good CASs. The task of transferring CDs to WAV or FLAC and so on may be too daunting for many, especially for those who have thousands of discs. For many, plug-and-play is the preferred choice (I second it in my dream), but many factors still suppress this development.

My solution - having two systems simultaneously and enjoy the pros and cons of each system in the current context, hahaha ...

我都相信樓主所講。但係無得玩cd = 無得去二手鋪淘碟，無得渣住本cd書仔睇下，無得「肣蚋d度隻碟尼聽」，好以無咁過引C。希望第二時用file聽歌之餘都可保留「撚碟」既樂趣啦。
