| [#5] KEF 喇叭好嗎? Up to early 90s, kef was still the king of speaker in both price and performance. For a reference, the legendary ls3/5a is designed by KEF. Kef use to have sound natural and mid is it strength!!! Worth a try!!! |

| [#7] KEF 喇叭好嗎? Back in the 1970s and 80s, the BBC LS3/6 reigned supreme as the quality broadcast monitor for use in smaller studios and control rooms. And almost everybody was happy – not just the studio professionals, but also the Hi-Fi press and the listening public, who knew the LS3/6 as the Spendor BC1. I say almost everybody was happy, because a few weren't – most notably the producers and presenters at Radio 1, where they wanted 'The Happy Sound' to be very much louder – louder than the rather conservative Spendor BC1s were capable of. With no space in the control rooms for the (then) newly-introduced BBC LS5/8 – a big speaker in every possible way – the BBC turned to KEF electronics, with whom they already had a good working relationship, and asked them to design a higher-powered, higher-quality alternative to the Spendor BC1, in a cabinet which would still fit in a compact control room. What KEF came up with was the P60 monitoring system, which delivered everything in the design brief and more. Using a B200 8-inch bass unit and a T33 fluid-cooled tweeter, it could produce 113dBA at 1 metre – massively louder than the Spendor BC1, but from a compact 24-litre cabinet. This was achieved partly by KEF's 'hybrid crossover' design – the passive crossover in the speaker itself was simplified to just provide frequency splitting between the units, and the tonal correction was provided by a specially modified Quad power amplifier, based on the 500 series, called the KEF K300. Strangely, relatively few of these monitoring systems were made, despite their high quality and remarkable power handling and bass extension for their size. Outside of the BBC, a number were used in ITV sound control rooms, but when production finished a tiny number were sold into the hi-fi market, which is where the system on offer here is from. |
