[#1] Anti Cable Dear Chings Below is a lengthy discussion thread between me and Paul Speltz, the inventor and owner of Anti Cable. Unlike most of the British manufacturers, this company tends to use more technical theories to promote its products. Whether those theories valid or not is something I am not knowledgeable enough to verify. So I put it out here for all chings to dsicuss. Me: What is wire size of the cable? Do u offer more than 1 size? Paul: The Anti-Cable speaker wire use two #12 AWG wires (which is a fairly heavy gauge), to each speaker. For those who want the very best from me, I make them a "doubled-up" set. Instead of 2 wires running to each speaker, there are 4 wires running to each speaker. Doubling #12 gauge equals #9 AWG which is a lot of copper! If you are looking for something smaller, I do have small quantities of smaller gauge wire as well. Me: If I go for double up would you able to crimp them together in one spade? I don't want to deal with 2 spades. Paul: Yes, I can do that for you. It will be the cost of two stereo sets, plus $20 to "shotgun" two wires into each spade at the amplifier ends, and $20 to "shotgun" two wires into each spade at the speaker ends. I will also weave together all four wires, which will make the doubled-up wire look and feel much like a typical speaker cable. Me: Actually I want bi-wire cables so I do not need to shot gun the speaker end. I do not know what is shot gun. Can you explain or send me a photo to show it? Thanks. Paul: "shotgun", like a double-barrel-shotgun, which is a fire arm weapon that has two barrels coming out of one gun. It is a way people describe when two wires come out of one spade (or banana). Two 7 foot Stereo sets of Anti-Cables ($70 + $70), shotgun two wires into each spade at the amplifier ends ($20), factory weave all four wires together (free), with 4 spades at the speaker ends (included) = $160 This will give you a very nice cable looking, easy to manage, wire run with two spades at the amplifier end, and 4 spades at the speaker ends for each speaker. The factory weaving option is not discussed on our web site, but it is something we have been offering to customers for almost 2 years now. Customers we have done this for have been very happy with how they look and sound. Me: I believe u use very thin plastic insulation is to reduce the dielectric effect. If you weave two wires together will it cause unwanted dielectric effect? My other question is what is anti cable's technology in preventing the radio frequency interference? Paul: Yes, my red coating is only 0.001 inch thick, in attempt to reduce the bad sounding dielectric effect distortion as much as possible. I believe that keeping the wires close together by either weaving or twisting them helps further reduce the dielectric effect distortion. This is because the equal and opposite magnetic fields between the (+) and (-) wires will tend to cancel each other out, reducing the amount of magnetic fields cutting through what little dielectric material there is. Since typical thick plastic jacketing has no RFI shielding effect, the Anti-Cables are no more susceptible to RFI then any other speaker cable. The only effective way to address RFI with any speaker cables is with snap on ferrite beads over the ends of the wires. A super simple low cost solution if you ever experience RFI issues on any cable. Me: Thanks for the clarification. In this case, there is a benefit if we weave the positive and negative wire together even for single wire set? What is the material of the 0.001" coating? Is it enamel or soft plastic like pvc or pet? I concern electrical safety and reliability of the coating. Paul: The Anti-Cable red coating is propitiatory material, but I will tell you it is more similar to enamel then PVC or PET. Yes. The Anti-Cables will come factory woven if bi-wired or doubled-up, or factory twisted if you buy a single wire set. Me: What is your point of view in the skin effect? I saw the technical docs from audioquest. They are a strong believer in skin effect. The discussion of this phenomenon is widely divided in the industry. I don't know what to believe... My friend said to me since Anti Cable is so affordable, why don't you buy one and try it to find out. The way I look at it is whatever the result is, it is hard to account for the skin effect unless I can compare it with a cable that has no skin effect or a cable that has lots of skin effect. What do you think? Paul: When designing anything, I first list off all the variables. Something as simple as Speaker Wire or Interconnects, there are as many as 15 to 20 variables (Resistance, capacitance, inductance, shielding, conductor size, type, configuration, skin effect, insulator material, thickness, configuration, resonances, motor action, etc, etc, etc...). Since making one variable better, often makes another variable worse, I need to understand what sonic effect each variable causes, then prioritize the variables and start looking for solutions. Essentially, designing anything first requires a very good understanding of the science one is dealing with, then doing a very good job of managing the compromises. Skin effect is of high importance when woking with very high frequency RF designs. I believe there are many other variable that are more important then skin effect when designing within the audible frequency range. I also believe that most people that think they are hearing "skin effect" distortion are actually hearing dielectric effect distortion. This is a very common misconception. the best way to judge the cable is listening. once the cables arrive, i'll let you know. But if you want the weaving type, I'm afraid you may have to make a special order.

Anticable is in fact a US company. Sound performance aside they are quite non user-friendly because the wires are very stiff & difficult to go round corners.
