[#1] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock According to a Weiss 202 review in this month's AudioTechnique magazine (page 214), there is significant improvement when Weiss 202 is fed with clock signal from a Apogee Big Ben. This is quite surprising. Weiss 202 should have a very high quality internal clock. Also, the reviewer says that reclocking the digital out of his Lindemann DDC 24/96 via the Big Ben gives rise to improvement too (page 283). |

[#6] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock from this post "Digital Master Clock SOS test" seems no good using big ben external clock |

[#7] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock I also think that Big Ben is just a mid-level clock that is already several yrs old. Weiss 202 is a new & high-end DAC with premium internal components. I doubt the Big Ben clock can further improve it. It's more convining if the clock is a high-end one from Antelope Audio or Grimm Audio. |

[#9] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock Maybe master clock is a new area for audiophiles, most people do not understand its function well enough. Regardless if external clock can improves sound quality, for a digital system, there should always have only 1 master sync. e.g.1 CD Transport -> DAC (CD Transport is the master sync, DAC is the slave) e.g.2 Computer soundcard -> DAC (soundcard is the master sync, DAC is the slave) As you can see in normal operation, the master sync is always at the source. If you wish to use an external master clock in this system, you should either lock both units, or the source to the external clock (WLK), instead of the DAC. e.g.1 CD Transport (BNC sync to WLK) -> DAC (BNC sync to WLK) - Both units are working under 1 external clock or e.g.1 CD Transport (BNC sync to WLK) -> DAC (Slave to digital input e.g. AES) If you lock the DAC to external master clock but not the source (e.g. CD Transport) e.g.1 CD Transport -> DAC (BNC sync to WLK). You have 2 master sync (one is CD transport, one is external master clock) in this system and therefore it will not work properly. If any DAC has WLK I/O, we advice to use the WLK output to sync the source (assume the source can be external sync). In such way, this digital system have 1 master sync and it is the DAC. This is also how the Weiss works with CAS (firewire connection). 最後修改時間: 2010-07-12 14:52:37 |

If it is a fact that the connection from AudioTechnique magazine can produce better sound, is it something happened about 202? Pls advise |

[#11] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock cryingfreeman, I ensure Kent know this approach already and even better but it is a rare usage for general audiophile. At day one he informed me the availablility of my Weiss dac202, he did suggested me to use the DCLK out to feed my dCS P8i....I tried and cannot fallback, the sound of dCS improved a lot !! ^0^ |

[#12] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock tested by sound of sound magazine An Apogee PSX100 was sync’ed to two external clocks, and again, the result was worse than on its own internal clock — although it appears that the Apogee is better at slaving to external signals than some of the other devices we used in our tests. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun10/images/Clocks_05_Apogee_Synchrogenius_Trinity.jpg |

[#15] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock sound of sound magazine There’s no obvious difference between the internal and external clock references when using the Prism Sound Orpheus — so while it is possible to sync almost perfectly to external clock signals, it doesn’t appear possible to actually improve performance. |

[#16] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock sound of sound Like the Behringer device, the Focusrite ISA 428 performed better on its own internal clock than on either of the two master clocks (Antelope and Drawmer) it was sync’ed to. |

[#18] Weiss 202 & Apogee Big Ben external clock Hello cryingfreeman, I don't comment on subjective perception, especially on a public forum. I respect everyone has different perspectives on his/her own listening perception. As said I am very appreciate such a detail review. Master clock is usually a mis-understanding area for audiophile, that they logically thought that using an external clock must provide enhanced quality. However more than usual it is on the opposite side. batmanames04 posted many examples from Sound on Sound magazine, those are real facts for Antelope Trinity 10M and Drawmer Mclock on those DACs. Honestly, I am quite impressed with Prism Orpheus, seems like a solid engineering are applied. We have very high end master clock in our daily production environment, sometimes we heard very positive improvements on some products (locking to Protools I/O), sometimes we heard worse performances. In my consultancy history, I have fixed over hundreds of dCS systems, which the master clock is incorrectly hook up and the users are actually did not notice until they heard clicks or unlock signal. If you use the Weiss 202 DAC, use the internal for firewire connection and avoid the soundcard. That's the reason why we don't have WLK I/O for INT202, and previous products. DAC202 provides WLK mostly for playing back firewire from computer, you can at the same time lock with external clock - from WLK, AES or SPIDF or internal. DAC2 does not provides WLK, but you also can select the Sync from AES, SPDIF. If you do so, that's mean even you are playing back CAS, you may use the exact same clock sync from your CD transport. Share with you one special cafe I went in Osaka. You can check out the right hand side - source. |
