[#1] Quad ESL 63 troubleshooting haha........first first.............thx you Mr Ho, gift me that pair of wonderful speaker..................... it has some issue, seem it is quite common for those Vintage ESl 63 it has funny SISI..ZIZPIppppppppp when turn on..idle...etc.. it has funny distortion quite often .......and those SISI zippppppzip...noise.. when music is playing....... within the last 5 hours of usage.., it does has some moment without those noise.. and when listen to radio ..without music..it seem to no such noise......... not suppose to play loud..with it, and not playing loud... it seem to trigger the protection fairly early ...some four season LP at less than 80 db playing..etc.. haha... first thing first... i download a copy of service manual......... haha 5.3K V....seem dangerous... however i am not exactly sure from looking at the scan.. where exactly the points of A B C D... haha any sharing...is welcome..haha. fun speaker to have thx for anyone like to have a copy of ESL 63 service manual..lets me know..i send u a copy too...haha haha 最後修改時間: 2022-01-12 13:48:04		hahayanyan 正式會員 49.xxx.xxx.168	2022-01-12 13:38

haha兄,小心高壓5.3KV.. 市面multimeter 衹能測量1000V -max,不過只speaker出Ｄ---＞ SISI zippppppzip...noise又係幾煩

我以前玩嘅靜電喇叭，係來自荷蘭嘅Audiostatic

飛利浦錄音室都有用佢

佢老闆曾經講過如果靜電喇叭有跳火聲，就要留意有沒有塵埃

間唔中要用吸塵機吸下震膜同兩片電極之間嘅罅隙

Quad 唔知吸唔吸得，驚整爛塊震膜

網上有用家話係震膜瓜老襯，吸塵冇用，要更換

yan, use an amp that can withstand the 1.5ohm protection circuit when it senses the amp overdriving it or the panels are arcing. if little lamp still works, you can peel off the rubber gromit near the on/off switch to see this. i'm sure it is flashing like fireworks! if the speaker is in good condition, this lamp should only blink once every few seconds. Like most ESL63, the glue used for the panel stators are all dried-up...so the conductive films used are loose and hence you hear arcing noise. Master Patrick is not around else he can show you how to repair/restore it.

i love ESL but 'high maintenance' son of a gun!

Indeed very nice classical guitar tone and texture.. Feel it is kind of fast in a nice way.. Is really fast.. And right.. Haha

Really the right speaker for some particular kind of music.. Haha

Apart from upper right channel have very very excessive sisis Sasa... Lower mid range distortion... Haha

用嚟聽收音機人聲... No such noise

one good reading material

things has been learned

* disassembly and assembly
* stator PCB bonding glue on etc.. ( glue choices need to be certain)
* in the case of broken mylar.., source of it..., kind of having idea which spray on coating to be used...

things...need
* trouble shooting the electronic....or assume it has no issue at this moment
* making some simple Jig , a tensioning tactic in case a new diaphragm is needed
* diaphragm resistivity seem critical..., need to learn an effective way to measure it..

seem making it no fault without those funny noise..is not that difficult
making it sound intended...is another matter........
