[#39] Harbeth同好會 M40 hing, Oh not my home, in my friend's home last week ( I know him in R33 here and find out he is one of my previous client, what a small word). I find it is a gentle speaker but the mid range is full of body. I spend 2 hours at my friend's home listen to classical, Jazz and vocal and rock music and I spend 2 more hours at home listen to the same CD in my home. I think there is always pros and cons but SHL-5 worth the price it ask for. I think it need a good and powerful solid state amp and also a good stand is important for it. I will give it a good 8.5/10. I will consider to buy it soon. |

[#40] Harbeth同好會 Ken1967, glad to hear you like it too. I think 8.5 is high score for speaker in this price level. Agree it requires good stand and good amp, also careful tuning can help to minimize its cons. |

Besides, my "boss" want to buy a set of Disney world family (a baby teaching DVD and book) to my baby. The price is 2xSHL-5!!!!!!!!!! Dear all broters, my warning: " play hi-fi, no baby!" :P |

[#42] Harbeth同好會 bigbird, For your new born baby good sake, you need SHL5 even more. A good speaker can calm baby down and stimulate their intuition and learning. Just like music, will you let your baby hear rubbish pop music or Mozart? |

[#43] Harbeth同好會 Hi bigbird, I agree with M40, SHL-5 is worth for the money. Also, you don't need to spend sky price for the AMP to match that.Still can play wonderful sound for you family. |

[#52] Harbeth同好會 With grille on, mid/high/low seems more integrated. And most important, soundstage is bigger! |

[#53] Harbeth同好會 Look at grille and groove for grille to fit on. There are some tricks to control edge diffraction....Anyway, you better hear yourself. |

[#55] Harbeth同好會 frankie hing, Your stand have a good colour match wor. M40 hing, The cons I refer to is: in some music it can have more putch and I find the sound stage can be deeper. Also some music can be bloomy. But the owner just have it for a week so can be improved. But no speaker is perfect and consider the price... a good 8.5/10. Of course if I have a $50k budget then there are something very good also. Really like to see your stand match with M40 in your home. OK for coming Sat? Ken1967 |

[#56] Harbeth同好會 Hi Ken1967, Soundstage can be improved by more suitable stand, putting grille on, four-points (not three) spk-stand interface, etc.... If spk is new, it could sound bloomy too. cos the rubber surround is still stiff and slow. More run-in will cure the problem. I'm not saying SHL5 is perfect speaker, just want to say many so called cons may due to sub optimal setup. p.s. Sorry that my full year Sat was occupied starting from last week. So need to find a better time. Sun will be better. |
