| [#1] Mark Levinson 前級一問 小弟從未接觸過Mark Levinson，但在二手店聽過就鐘意左，但型號太多，想問ML7，ML7A，No.26, No26s，No28 和 No38s 有什麼分別?那款性價比最高? 小弟對Mark Levinson的歷史一無所知，只從音響雜誌知道，ML7A，ML2, ML3, No383是好嘢嚟。 |

| [#10] Mark Levinson 前級一問 My limited Mark Preamp comment (correct me freely if you know that is wrong): JC-1, JC-2, ML-1 - The earliest preamp from ML made 40 years ago. LNP-2 - This is originally a studio preamp, not expected to be used at home. ML started its business as professional sound instrument manufacturer, not for consumer product. Many die-hard fans still say that it is the best. ML6 - One of the best phono ever made. For line stage, it depends whether the sound is your cup of tea. When it came out, the price was over $50k 30 years ago (by that time a HK apartment was around $200k). It should be the most money-hi-end Mark prep according to inflation. If you love old style Mark sound, it is the best. (version: 6, 6A, 6B) ML7 - Two ML6 in one case (ML6 is mono). (version: 7, 7A) ---------------------- one of the problems to be considered when using the above amp is that they are modular amp. The heart of the circuit is buried in epoxy so there is no way to repare individual components inside. If you want to keep them for daily used, you should know c-fu that can fix the modules. ---------------- ML10, ML12 - Cheaper model during the era of ML6 ML26 - Made after Mark left ML. Much "cheaper" than ML6 (about $45K arround 20 years ago, where a HK flat is around $2M). Cutting a lot of cost but still maintain a high standard of sound. More user friendly (at least there is a Stereo volume control). The phono stage is optional and just so and so. Still a very good sound preamp but may not be yor cup of tea. (version 26, 26S) ML38 - A preamp based on an electronic volume control and with a lot of IC and microprocessor technology. Very good resolution but most people do not like this kind of "cold" sound. (version 38, 38S) ML380 - Improved version of ML38. The circuit is basically the same as ML38 but some parts are upgraded. Sound is better but still not the cup of tea of many people. ML32 - A revolutionary preamp with AC regeneration and many microprocessor technology. Sound is "modern" and accurate. Price is $1xxk when new. --------------------------- Counting inflation, price of LNP ~ ML6 = 2 x ML32 = 6 x ML26 --------------------------- modern model..... Sorry I have no more budget (all my money is aten by my kids) so I have not bought any new toys for years. I have used 38S and 26S before and I like 26S much more than 38S. I still keep the 26S. |

| [#12] Mark Levinson 前級一問 ML6 = 2 x ML1 ML6A & ML6B are closer in internal construction but very different from ML6 ML6A / ML6B / ML7 / ML7A does not use epoxy sealed modules inside anymore. ML26 / 26S are easier to find in comparison to above but still rarely seen in the used market. Used ML preamps usually are sold quickly so no harm to buy one or more to try and compare by yourself. |

| [#20] Mark Levinson 前級一問 My experience is highend preamp performs alike after certain price point. They have different signature sound but then is more a mix-and-match or personal preference which contribute more to the ultimate decision. To me, vintage preamps are like paintings whereas modern ones are like camera pictures. You don't necessarily get the transient, resolution and blackness found in modern preamps from vintage ones. However, the feeling of listening to old cake music and even canto classics is just right when the sound is reproduced by vintage preamps.
