| [#21] Esoteric K03 櫃桶開唔出問題 #20, MLfans, thanks. My story is different. I observed my player jump lines while playing CD or SACD occasionally. I sent the player to DCH for repair, the DCH cfu told me that the player was needed to replace the Traverse VMK-5 in whole, not the laser head only over the phone. No way, he was the cfu. Finally, I paid HK$3000 for the traverse VMK-5 including labor. It was less than one year ago. Anyway, I forgot to ask the cfu to give me back the old VMK-5, but the description of part replaced was "TRAVERSE VMK-5". So seem I could not meet a good cfu like you came across there. | [#22] Esoteric K03 櫃桶開唔出問題 #20 Csum123 ching, I'm sorry to hear about your issue with X05. I can't figure out from "TRAVERSE VMK-5" exactly what has been replaced. I guess it is not the whole VMK-5 drive mechanism (replacement cost should be around $6000) but possibly the sub-assemble containing the laser head, shafts and stepper motor to move the laser head horizontally to track and read CDs. My friend used to have a K05x but had problems (jump tracks) with the drive reading CDs. Sometimes the drive did not stop rotating before ejecting the CD. DCH C-Fu has tried to fix it but ended up having to replace the whole VMK-5 drive free of charge under warranty. After fixing it my friend upgraded to K03xs. It appears to me that the VMK-5 drive used in X05/K05/K05x/K05xs is not very reliable and has much more problem that VMK-3.5 used by higher end players and transports. By the way VMK-5 is also the OEM drive used by Playback Design and dCS for some (not all) of their players so the same problem may arise. If you want to upgrade may I suggest you to consider K1, K01/03x or K01/03xs. VMK-3.5 drives have excellent reliability and performance track records. K03x/K03xs is the sweet spot in the Esoteric single box player family in terms of price/performance ratio. They are significantly better than K05x/K05xs. K01x/K01xs are only marginally better than K03x/K03xs but at a 60% price premium. Happy listening :) 最後修改時間: 2019-01-10 15:34:50 |

Anyway, look like I need to upgrade my X-05 with 10M clock to next level, I like the sound of X-05, will go out to audio shops to compare the sound differences between the K03x and X05. Oh....$$$ |

| [#24] Esoteric K03 櫃桶開唔出問題 Csum123 ching when I upgrade from X05 to K03 the SQ improvement was HUGE (it was night and day). I later upgraded to K03x and the improvement is still very significant. I believe the latest K03xs should be able to offer further improvement but it may be incremental. I don't know about your upgrade budget but you may also want to take a look at used K03x as well if new K03xs is over your budget and you don't mind used gear. Happy listening :) |
