Shame because it was a lovely sounding unit! , although i was a bit unsure of the build quality as the buttons on the front panel were not very solidly fixed and very light to touch , first rate sound though and i miss it! i hope the Levinson No36s would be up to the audio Synthesis in the sonic department if so i would be a happy camper 粒 DAC chip 一有事成部機就報廢!!! 最後修改時間: 2011-04-11 11:50:46 |

[#13] 陳年解碼器一問 No, BB1704 is not out. It is one of the best DAC in the market now. Many high end gears are still using it. Naim DAC or Primare CD31 are still using it. An Esoteric DAC costing over $100,000 are using 8 pcs of BB1704. Do not overlook it. |

[#20] 陳年解碼器一問 dac processing is similar to computer processor. just look at video scaler. isnt a newer one better than those old ones in handling higher resolution? old dac cannot handle 24 bit depth. from soundstage magazine: "In a 16-bit system -- the CD standard -- there are 65,536 possible discrete values. That means that the value between any two recordable voltages for our +/-2V example is about 0.00006V, or 60µV. Consequently, the maximum error in the signal is only 30µV, which seems pretty small -- except when you consider that the maximum resolving power of a good analog circuit is at least an order of magnitude better than that. Fortunately, analog-to-digital converters with bit depths of 20 and 24 are quite common. The ratio between the largest and smallest values recordable by a system is that system's dynamic range. Typically, dynamic range is expressed in decibels (dB), which represent this multiplicative difference logarithmically. There is a precise equation to convert from bit depth to dynamic range in dB, but the more useful rule of thumb is 6dB per bit. Applying that rule, a 16-bit system has a dynamic range of 96dB, and a 24-bit system has a dynamic range of 144dB. In the real world, electrical noise prevents A/D converters from achieving full 24-bit resolution. The best specification for dynamic range that I've seen on an ADC is 127dB, which is slightly better than 21-bit resolution. Other factors can drive that number even lower." |
