My friend also have a pair of RCA MI-9355, but this amplifier has very low gain, so it cannot be matched with normal preamp, but RCA professional preamp with high output gain only...! Another option is you have to add a voltage amplifier in order to reach the reasonable gain.

RCA MI-4256 doesn't sounds too Hi-Fi and detail to my ears, it sounds real, comfort, warm, smooth, emotional and very tasty, but it slightly lack of high frequency extension to my ears.

Hence! The driving amplifier for MI-9355 is extrenely important, because it can made MI-9355 sounds completely difference from one to another...!

"A pair of amplifiers extracted from late 40s RCA broadcast console used originally for monitor amp. Also has input transformer, currently bypassed, and 500 ohm output tap on output transformer. All transformers are high grade UTC. Comes with near NOS WE350B, Mullard GZ32 and Brimar EF37s. Tried many tubes and this is the best combination possible. Words can not explain how nice these sound. Have used them personally for months as power amps in office with EV Baronets containing WE755A. Incredible sound, single ended WE350B power amp."

Tried this combination of tubes on my amps today. Indeed the mid-range was much better

My pair of BA-4A are back from restoration. I would say that the all round performance is better than BA-13A, but BA-13A really shines on playing vocals.
