閣下家中電力供應可能出現過surge，把拖板內零件弄壞，兼損壞了router。

It's has a MOV, metal oxide varistor, diverting surge to ground. Should protect equipment rather than damaging. Maybe the router was faulty initially.

Besides, some conditioners are having capacitors connected from line and phase to ground. Might trip RCD.

如果是正規有濾波和涌浪吸收裝置的拖板是一定要pass一個叫 IEC61000的認証，測試要包含4種 EMS immunity test, 即是 ESD, EFT, Surge, Power Quaility, 其中雷擊Surge(下圖)尤為重要。有些認証的電源裝置一定要用合規格的 Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS diode), MOV係過不到這測試，會自己損壞的，所以不會用在需要這認証的拖板，因此價錢會貴一點。

MOV is quite common in industry, protecting against lightning stroke in 3 phase four wire system in industrial premises, of at least 1kA, hundreds of strikes during a thunderstorm based on counter. I can't see why it cannot be used in domestic equipment. Silicon carbide is different, basically useless.

Sure, it is quite common to adopt MOV on power distribution network, the one shown below is our 10kA surge arrestor that is designed for our 11kV OHL network. It is actually a MOV, it can absorb a huge amount of surge energy. However, when it is triggered, it cannot provide a very low impedance path for the mains users afterward. Also, the firing time is not fast enough to guarantee the leaked surge not to damage those sensitive electronic components. Therefore, for power electronic such as UPS, they will implement TVS as final stage for protection of expensive electronics components. For home use, audiophile equipment, wifi switchs and routers are pretty expensive, so TVS protected mains power supply is a must.
